I had an error when I was posting originally, I accidentally submitted the post. But yeah I don’t think I’m gonna list bug changes, just changes to the heroes kit.
These are just changes to the hero from the 33% damage nerf until now.
cuz roadhog is awful conceptually. a fat dps with a crutchy one-shot doesn’t really work as a tank for some reason, possibly having something to do with no ability to defend his team and feeding so much ult
possibly having something to do with only being good at peeling for his teammates with hook in theory. in actual practice it’s used offensively as a widow headshot minus the need to wait for charge or aim well in exchange for range.
ie not skill indexed properly and doesn’t actually tank
The actual nerf that made him terrible isn’t technically the scrap gun nerf.
It was that 2 second cooldown increase for the hook.
He still can oneshot most characters pretty much consistently. But that 2 seconds just introduced enough methods of countering and avoiding it that at this point, makes roadhog relatively super weak.
They essentially reverted that nerf by making the cooldown begin immediately, but hmm he STILL seems to be really bad
No, the 2 second increase on the cooldown were not because of LOS issues. The cooldown was increased because hook used to pull targets 2 meters away from Roadhog, which was extremely powerful.
Check patch notes: Patch 1.8.0.2 (February 28, 2017)
that cd immediately starting also makes it act like an ult. Being cc’d basically means you lose the hook without even using it.
and considering that any stun before the target reaching you was already going to make the hook cancel itself, It was a nerf/minor buff change. That wasn’t nearly enough to revert it.
But in all honesty, even though i play roadhog quite a lot, I don’t miss roadhog being meta.
This is both a buff and a nerf. The cooldown resets slightly faster, but the hook also goes on cooldown if hog gets stunned mid-hook (which it used to not do).
You also forgot the hook cooldown increase (from 6 to 8), the whole hog knockback nerf/bug fix, and the bazillion hook hitbox+disconnect changes.
True. But this doesn’t do a whole lot to Hog. It happens every once in a while, especially against McCree.
Roadhog meta was triple tank meta, was controversial for sure.
I will say that heroes shouldn’t be given buffs to make them meta, but to make their role more clear. Because as it stands now, the only situation you pick Hog is on Illios: Well, Nepal: Sanctum and Junkertown.
LOL good catch. Yeah, I was trying to hurry up with the post because I had accidentally posted it and I was barely a few lines in, not much reading was done on my part.
Yes, this is true. For the most part, it’s a buff. I personally rarely get stunned out of hook, so that’s why I see it more so as a buff than a nerf.
I replied to someone else saying that these changes are from the 33% damage nerf til now. I’ll add this to the post to clarify.
Not true. Roadhog was extremely useful in shield wars, and being able to consistently contest Dva and Winston. Those were his main uses. Being able to get hard-to-hit right click on Zarya wasn’t why he was picked.
Overall damage for 1 clip went from 900 to 750, with the same reload speed, and again, in the shield war, he was extremely important for breaking shields so he can throw in a hook and try to get a pick for his team. This was his playstyle in the triple tank composition.
Against Dive, Hog’s job was to contest Dva and consistently be able to deal with Tracer and Genji, and to stick near his own supports to deter the flankers from attacking.
Unfortunately I don’t think Blizzard will give him back his 9 damage per pellet. It’d be nice to have some of the damage back, maybe up it from 6 damage per pellet to 7 or 8.
