This won’t be a big nerf either. It’ll just require rat players to take a secure spot while using ultimate. This will also encourage flankers to prioritize immobilized Junkrat and kill him.
In balance/fairness perspective, I see literally no negative side effect of this change on Junkrat.
Edit: Added something others came up with in replies to title.
I feel like the most sensible thing would be for it to continue going in whichever direction it was heading in before he died and then exploding when the timer runs out.
Then Widow ult should go off if she dies, Sombra emp should go off if she used it and died, dva ult should go off if she just died to a sniper immediately, Orisa super charger …
nah its way to easy to find and kill ulting junkrats, it would be a huge nerf to the ult
im saying this as someone who does not play junkrat, i play tracer a hero who can easily kill ulting junkrats, your change would hugely benefit me but i don’t want it because it would be unfair to junk players.
No that would be too much, however I do think it should kill/dmg him if he detonates it too close to himself, like Tracer’s ult. It is a bit annoying when Junk gets his ult in a fight and then in a moment of safety pops it and blows it instantly to destroy a push with no ramifications, at least have him killed too.
Even though it can be canceled if he’s killed quickly enough, I don’t feel as though the removal of self-damage he got should have ever applied to his Ult.
Junk is a little good right now, not by much but a little. This would be a minor change to make this quite cheap use of his ult (which I don’t think was how it was intended to work) a bit more costly while not really nerfing him much.
Combine that with a nerf to ult charge rate and he is perfectly fine. The ult is just a little to reliable and versatile for something that he can charge 5 times in one round without even having to play that well.
It doesn’t matter if they’re F-tier Heroes, Blizzard decided to gimp everyone else when they changed how Genji’s ulti depletes.
And it would still end up as a significant nerf for Junkrat, instead of directly dealing with the Tire like how you are supposed to do against every single threat, you can indirectly handle it by killing a stationary target which is easily achievable in this age of Dive comp of superior mobile Heroes.
