Honestly, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. At most, I’d say the LoS should go back to 3 seconds, and/or increase Zen’s damage from 48 to 50 so he’s not as reliant on it in the first place.

Wouldn’t mind that much the Discord nerf if Zen healing wasn’t one of the worst of the game.

I 110% feel this is a much healthier direction to take the hero. It was bad from a gameplay point of view to me that you could make the effort to cleanse discord by breaking LoS (and basically removing yourself from the bulk of the fight temporarily, especially if youre the tank), come back out- and immediately be discorded again for your efforts.

Having a cooldown before being able to place it back on the same target actually gives some counter play. ALL powerful abilities like this should have moments where you as a player against it have a window of opportunity to play around it “off the table”.

That said

I dont think zen needed a direct nerf- Im glad they buffed his health to a degree to try and compensate, but im not going to say for certainty whether that will or wont be enough- Though i will acknowledge at least they attempted to compensate him for it.

And all this said- Ive said the same thing as you did here. Will definitely need to play / see how it actually is currently, but this is a great tuning point for consideration going forward. If the ability is going to have a “cooldown”, its not unreasonable for it to have a longer guaranteed up time on a target.

When I first read the balance notes I thought that they had buffed Discord’s duration before wearing off to 5 seconds, which would’ve made sense. You get to have more consistent Discord for lower uptime, which is the issue that needed fixing. Idk why they butchered him and pretty much made the ‘Zen is just a DPS’ meme an actual thing, but go off I guess.

Discord was a great counter to Orisa and now not so much. While I was rooting for this change, I failed to realize until now that it will just make Orisa even more of a menace, especially since they nerfed Sym which was a counter to her.
And there are no Orisa nerfs, of course.

This is probably meaningless, but I appreciate you admitting this. People don’t usually admit it when they see the negative ramifications of the things they’ve asked for.

Every Zen I’ve fought tonight has switched off. It took one about 5 deaths, but I haven’t seen one person playing Zen by the end of a game.

Thats still a useless change.

His discord orb is his defensive ability as well as offensive. If an enemy tries to duel, that discord is his defensive ability to get them to respect the match up.

+2 damage isnt going to save you when you cannot get the flanker discorded because the cleansed it for 7 seconds.

The 7 second duration needs nerfing. It wither stays a 7 second lockout for tanks only (which is fine) or it gets blanketed to a 3-4 second lockout across all roles but they reduce discord effectiveness on tanks by 50%

Which is what the community asked for. The discord is a problem for tanks and reducing effectiveness against the tanks is fine but should still be an ability tanks and dps should respect.

As of now even with a buff to primary fire you will still need to land 3-4 hits against enemies that can 1 clip + melee you easily.

+2 gives my threholds back i play enough zen to know this.

With+2 it’s two tap and I can do it faster when I don’t need to apply discord

Zen wasnt broken. His orb needed a tank change. As the glass cannon support discord was his core ability and its left him in a terrible position.

Moving thresholds doesnt fix the problem it just adds to the power creep. Which then adds tonthe point of just make him a dps at that point.

I also have enough hours on zen most of it in scrims back during goats and beyond. So I know what I am talking about.

And they have addressed the tank part with this nerf just need to compensate with+2 on primary so he deals with flankers like before.

And it’s solid change.
I play zen now too so I know what is needed than someone who played during some cold war tank era with three tanks

this is a real bad change imo. discord was never an issue outside of focusing tanks with it. so lower its effectiveness vs tanks??? it was never a problem concerning squishies, yet now its so so much worse. not even most top 500 lobbies communicate enough to make new discord worth running unless they just plop it down on the tank, making it even more anti-tank now.

i was always of the opinion that damage boost edged out a bit over discord. with discord theres times u cant discord so-n-so, too dangerous to peak or they’re too far or behind a shield, maybe u found a good target to discord but no one else notices or can act on it. at least vs squishies some coordination and communication is needed. with damage boost what ever they dmg, whatever opportunities your pocket finds is boosted. way less hoops to jump through to get good value with it.

so much being done and tried when they just need to lower its effectiveness vs tanks, let tanks shake it off faster than squishies, let shields count as breaking line of sight to shake off discord, hey counterplay! theres better things to try

Zen is literally the lowest tier healer already with teams actively reporting you for playing him, and BLIZZARD thought it was a good idea to nerf him even further because some tanks complained.

HIS ROLE IS LITERALLY A TANK MELTER

Ok so now we need to nerf mercy’s heal so if she already healed someone she can’t heal them for seven seconds, and Ana should get the same nerf. While we’re at it make it so that Soldiers bullets can only hurt someone once every seven seconds and make Widow take a seven second pause between each scoped shot.
