With Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard, does this mean Battle Net will be merged with Xbox ?
I hope so, I hate battle net
Battle.net was innovative 25 years ago. Now it’s nothing more than any other player pool. The more the merrier, I think.
Whats more likely is the games will be migrated to other platforms that link to battlenet. Like with Halo and Forza where you sign into you xbox profile, only you’ll be signing into your battlenet profile instead.
I do hope it stays though because the fully integrated chat is really well implemented, that alone makes me like battlenet significantly more than anything that isn’t steam.
Doesn’t Minecraft for example still have its own launcher? There’s so much investment in Battle.net infrastructure with cross-play etc that it would be a waste of time to migrate all of their games onto a different platform IMO.
But what about happen to Battletag?
I really hope the battle net launcher as well as this website / forums are shut down.
Minecraft recently started the process of merging all Minecraft accounts into Xbox (Microsoft) accounts. so if they did it to Minecraft, they can do it to battle net imo
I don’t want to buy or use the xbox or microsoft platforms though :\ I don’t have use for them now
Based on everything that I have read, looks like we should not be expecting any changes to how we play Blizzard games until at least the summer of 2023. Which is when they expect to finalize the acquisition.
Thing is you couldn’t really link a Mojang account to a Microsoft accounts back then
But you can link a Microsoft account to a bnet account
Should be a bit easier
They are still two separate databases, and unless you play Diablo 3 or OverWatch on Xbox One, there was no reason to link your Microsoft account. I would also note that the Mojang account roll over took place several years after the finalized acquisition of Mojang.
The overall news suggests to me that Battlenet will eventually be retired, but we should really not stress over that right now.
Damit… at least I expect a change in the way they are structured. I am sure they will make sure that what they bought today will not be worse later. They will sure start to change things soon.
I hope not. The xbox app is the worst plattform I’ve ever witnessed on pc. There’s not even an option to change a game’s language which is pretty annoying if you want to play games in any other language than your system language in windows
guess we dont have to worry about it till 2023 which is good since im too lazy to download another browser app lol
It is a reasonable expectation that Microsoft starting today will have a huge influence on the culture of Activision Blizzard. Just that any hard changes are not likely to be reflected until much later.
Unlikely, certainly not for a long time otherwise. Overtime, I would expect store elements to be shifted over to the Microsoft Store, but friends lists and things of that nature will likely be the very last things to be touched on, and likely will be handled with care.
