Rigged idea shot down again

So in the most recent blog we got a throw away line about how Blizzard doesn’t do anything in the matchmaker to either cause or prevent win/lose streaks. Hopefully this can mark the end of any of this talk of the matchmaker “rigging” and we can move forward with the simple notion that you are the SR you deserve.

just because they don’t rig the games on purpose doesn’t mean it’s not happening

the devs have proven over and over again, they don’t understand the consequences of their changes.

oh we tried to speed this up by matching this person with this person, we don’t actually know what will happen, but have fun testing it for us for 3 weeks

Yes, they’ve already explained it wasn’t rigging, it was just a bad matchmaking system. Don’t know why people are still insisting it’s rigging.

Doesn’t matter what they say. The people who think it’s rigged don’t care if blizz says it’s not.

Literally by definition, rigging something is intentional.

They said they’re looking into it. Because they recognize something is wrong. What is with people pretending blizzard have not actively, and repeatedly, been saying the matchmaker is borked for WEEKS now on social media and elsewhere?

Blizzard is not doing any rigging on purpose. But the matchmaker “feels” rigged because the way it decides what games you play is weird and wrong. They admitted it was wrong right there in the blogpost.

Teams are spread too far apart. They literally admitted that. It’s improving but still bad. This could easily cause more wild fluctuations. You go up, but some of your teammates do not, and suddenly you’re trying to diamond dva or diamond junkerqueen, but your team are golds and think you need 4 people on payload when you’ve won the first fight but not finished the last two.

You’re not even playing the same game, at all. But enemy tank is now diamond cause you went up to diamond, and easily picks apart your team because when HE pushes forward to cleanup stragglers, they follow.

So winstreaks till you get to diamond, loss streaks till you go back to plat 1, and then back to diamond, etc… not intentional rigging but still the mmr system is not leading to the intended consequences and causing wild SR fluctuations which threaten competitive integrity.

That being said, it is improving! Yesterday I had the first all diamond game I’ve ever seen in OW2. I lost, but it was fun and educational and I learned from my mistakes! something you can’t do in games with golds because it’s so random.

what’s the difference between rigged games

and a matchmaker blizzard made changes to that they don’t fully understand?

what do we know?

  1. they made a lot of changes to the matchmaker
  2. it’s bad
  3. they don’t full understand it, but are slowly looking at the data to fix it

so to say matchmaking isn’t rigged isn’t a logical argument here

the matchmaker could 100% be causing rigged games because not even blizzard understands the consequences from their new matchmaker

It wont. These people are in a conspiratorial mindset and will read whatever they want out of Blizzards MM posts.

They’ve said they’re looking into things and have made improvements, but they clearly don’t think it’s “borked,” rather just that it has room for improvement. I don’t think anything dramatic is going to happen that suddenly makes every game close. It’ll probably improve a little more, and beyond that people will just have to deal with it until they get bored of complaining.

rigged winrate =/= win/lose streaks

I have several accounts all in different elos so i call bs on that one

A random sentence does NOT fix the state of the matchmaker

We will still all go back to getting our “it’s your turn to win/it’s your turn to lose” simulator

Good luck rationalizing with delusion

If it’s not intentional it’s not rigging.

False. They have admitted the matchmaker is putting golds in grandmaster games. It is borked.

I mean, they bought the patterns… so if would be dumb to spend money on something you’re not using, from a business perspective.

That is also not how it works. When they finish their investigation the results are probably obvious to most people who know basic gamer mentality: the issue is 100% on the players not being consistent. When OW2 was sold the 5v5 had a pitch that individual performance would matter more and that was correct. However what that means is once you are in tilt because you lost 1 or 2 games you are going to play worse and that means MORE losses in a row. Once you snap out of it, because no tilt lasts forever, and you are no longer trying to force things suddenly you will be winning, because the games are easier, until you are back where you were.

When they finish their “research” into what is causing streaks all that will happen is we will know exactly what we knew from the start: too many players have a poor mentality that makes them easily tilted.

When did they say this?

Agree completely, OW2 is a fundamental format change that can result in stomps because of the way 5v5 works. The matchmaker will never solve that, in fact it’s working as designed. I think they should add back 6v6 for this reason though, if only in unranked. Not everyone is going to be happy with the core gameplay changes of 5v5, and I don’t know why they went all-in on it.

I suppose in truly a diamond player when I live and breath bronze

They said it on twitter. They said they were rolling out a fix for it last week. It has definitely improved, I’m not a cynic, but still more work to do tho.
