Hey Overwatch forums! Havent been here in a while!

To keep this as short as possible, my reasons for starting this movement is that Symmetra is once again getting the short end of the stick in regards to balance. Multiple heroes are getting reworks for Overwatch 2, yet Symmetra, who stands out as one of the characters in most dire need of a rework is once again left to the wayside.

Symmetra’s 3.0 rework was never balanced properly throughout her history and it looks like that trend is going to continue come Overwatch 2. Currently Symm’s main strength lies in taxi-ing teammates around with her TP. In the downtime symmetra is left to spam orbs and very rarely make use of her discount Zarya beam in close range team fights. Damage heroes should excel at dealing damage, Symmetra does not. Maybe thats we she’s currently the 5th least played hero on PC with a less than 1% pickrate?

I have made countless forum posts discussing Symmetra here and decided to go out with one last hurrah! Thats why Im starting the #ReworkSymmetra movement. I and many others fully believe that Symmetra needs another rework for Overwatch 2.

So how can you participate? Well to start you can leave a reply to this thread with your thoughts! Please avoid making too many new topics about the same conversation. I’m not trying to raid the Overwatch forums (we don’t want another #ReworkMercy scenario.)

On top of this thread another way to help out is by taking to twitter! You can start by liking and reposting my tweet for this event https://twitter.com/YellowNinjaM/status/1549053083262808067! Additionally you can follow that up by tweeting anything Symmetra related! Rework concepts, fanart, cool or even disappointing clips! Just make sure to include #ReworkSymmetra in your posts! You might also wish to tag @playoverwatch and feel free to tag me as well @YellowNinjaM.

As always please keep your posts respectful. The goal is to gain sympathy, not mockery. The launch of Overwatch 2 could potentially be Symmetra’s last chance to get reworked. Let’s make it happen before it’s too late!

That’s nice and all, but in what direction should she be reworked?

Haven’t they already indicated that they intend to rework her in a future Beta build?

Any direction is better than Blizzard’s current one. There are thousands of ideas all over the internet and most people are inclined to support rework.

Let’s hope something actually meaty comes her way in beta 3, cuz girl 9 nerfs are not meaty changes lol

He’s back! Miss your videos on sym. She could do with something, she’s better than she was but I still think full rework is needed. Teleporter is such a kaka movement ability

  • 120/140/180 beam damage
  • 110 orb damage
  • Convert Beam charge level increase to a damage requirement (I.e. Affected by damage boosts)
  • AltFire damage also increases Charge level
  • Charge level increases AltFire charge speed
  • 20% less sentry cooldown
  • Can only teleport 1 or 0 pre-existing sentry for Sentry Bombs
  • PRO PLAY EXCLUSIVE: Teleporter is put on a 5sec cooldown at the start of the match

I don’t know about you but she felt pretty good to me after the most recent patch changes

Just like strength wise….I’m still not sure I’d pick her in OW2 over some of the other heroes….but she didn’t like feel “weak”….

Like I would absolutely play that sym in OW1….would wreck 2cp with her I think (at my level anyway)……OW2? Ehhhh…

For the life of me, I can’t understand why they don’t just go with a Support rework already.

Sym desperately needs another rework and she’s never going to work properly in DPS without removing just about everything left that still makes her Sym. Utility DPS has never exactly worked out well. Not to mention, the majority of DPS mains are at best indifferent towards her and a good chunk of them actively dislike her.

Meanwhile, Support is desperate for heroes, her player-base has always leaned Support, and Support players in general have always found her character type appealing. Her themes and abilities also have a lot more room to be worked with and changed as Support and she could potentially even get her shielding capabilities back.

But even if they’re going to stick with the DPS route, the girl still needs a proper rework. Her abilities are an awkward gimmicky mess and ability Team Teleporter is choking the life out of her.

Not in a future beta build, but specifically in the future in general.
So, we most likely will not see any rework right away, since it would require more work with VFX, animations, sound departments, etc.

That was their original reason as to why Sym didn’t get any full rework this beta, since prepping all of that would require a lot of time to get done.

Good luck with that.

We’ve tried that for years here on the forums & nothing has really changed except for the few buffs we got in this 2nd beta phase.

We have come up with different ideas but nothing.
At this point, at least, I have given up on Symmetra being changed to work well as a Damage hero.

aside from her left click symmetra feels fine now in the beta her right clicks are the best theyve ever been if you are still having trouble getting use out of her thats a skill issue on you, you gotta hit those orbs and sym 3.0 was a taxi bot if thats what u wanted her to be she doesnt need a rework just help in her left click and she would be fine in ow2

They haven’t. Just maybe some beam changes in the future. If they intended to rework her she would have received the Orisa treatment instead of them waisting time and resources on the current “meaty” changes.

Any DPS direction that isnt being a team TP slave is better than what we currently have.

Sym has never been a support in practice. Her support label was outdated by OW1 launch, and only scuffed Mercy mains want her to be a healbot. Since day one she has been a utility DPS closer to Mei and Torb than to any support. In fact her support label was detrimental to her performance for years and they refused to change it out of some absurd hazy feelings about it.

Sym should not be a sacrifice to placate support onetricks that feel slighted at not getting a new hero in the beta. Which they ARE getting in a couple of months anyways.

#ReworkSymmetra is a go. I hate her TP bot era, it’s an absolute flop, I prefered farming my ult to make a TP, not using it as an ability

I had these ideas for a new rework for Symmetra, what do you think? any additional ideas?

my dude there’s so many more good causes to advocate for out there…

that said, yes give me support sym lol and this is my suggestion:

Primary

  • Remains exactly the same

Secondary

  • Orbs now heal and charge at the same speed as they travel (currently really fast)

  • Max orb size can be held indefinitely, you can also fire primary through it without releasing the orb

Turrets

  • Turrets don’t deal damage anymore, instead they heal BUT instead of connecting to an ally, they connect with each others, the tether in between them is the healing mechanic

  • When deployed each turret releases a healing wave of 5m around them and then they connect and produce the healing string indefinitely until destroyed

  • Active/stored number of turrets increased to 4

  • HP changed to shield HP and increased to 50

Teleporter (this one is heavily changed)

  • Entry portal removed, team can’t travel forward anymore but they can travel BACK towards Sym’s current position if they use the end portal

  • Sym herself is the only one who can TP towards the end portal by pressing the skill key but portal breaks as soon as she goes in

  • Deployable ONLY on vertical walls inside bounds, max range increased to 40m

  • End portal connects with other turrets creating 2 healing tethers and healing anyone who moves through

  • Cooldown is 6s after deploy but going through reduces cd to 2s

  • HP changed to shield HP

Ult

  • Wall remains the same but now it has a weak point where it takes double damage

  • Wall health increased to 4500

  • Weak point is created where sym casts the skill

  • Weak point connects with turrets and TP to create healing tethers AND recharges their shields constantly

  • Weak point itself also regens shield hp constantly

Here’s my idea for a support Symmetra

Passive Ability: Photon Aura
• Converts 25% of damage Symmetra does with her primary and secondary fire to a healing aura with a range of 10m
• When inside the 10m range teammates will have 50% of their white health converted to shields
• Heals Symmetra for 15% of the damage she does
• Can see the range like Lucios although it will be blue

Photon Projector
• Ammo increased to 100
• Can regenerate ammo from attacking shields and shield health

Primary Fire: Beam
• Lock on beam
• Range is 12m
• DPS is 50/75/100
• Takes 1 second to ramp up to the next stage
• Takes 2 seconds to decay to the previous stage

Secondary Fire: Orb
• Can no longer charge it
• fire rate is 0.75s
• Travel speed is 50m/s
• Damage is 60/80/100 depending on what stage sym is on
• Size of projectile will be (1/3 of max size)x (whatever stage sym is on stage) with stage 3 being a normal fully charged shot that is on live
• Would keep the animation of the orb growing bigger

Ability 1: Healing/Damage Sentry Turret
• Has two beams one healing and one damaging
• The healing beam will target the teammate with the lowest hp
• Can not stack healing beams on teammates
• Can have 3 turrets
• Cooldown is 6 seconds
• Health is 75
• Travel speed is 35
• Range is 12m
• Dps is 30/40/50, hps is 20/25/30, Slows enemy by 20/25/30% and depends on what stage sym is on

Ability 2: Teleporter
• Has 50 health and 250 shields
• Build time 1 second
• Range is 35m
• Lasts 5 Seconds and cooldown starts at activation
• Cooldown is 10 seconds
• Can only teleport 1 turret per teleporter
• Exit teleporter will be invisible to the the enemy until someone goes through it

Ultimate: Photon Barrier
• Health is 1500
• Duration is 7 seconds
• Sym will stay at max stage during the ultimate
