Rework Tanks pls

Can tanks get reworked so that when they DO their JOB of mitigating damage - it doesn’t end up feeding??

Because mitigating should NEVER = feeding but it does in Overwatch.

I don’t know what the right solution is, all I’ve got is that Tanks should get a mitigation passive, where dealing damage/eliminating tanks gives the player less ultimate points (than eliminating a dps or support) so that Tanks are encouraged to eat up damage instead of instantly getting blamed for trying to protect their team.

How about they design this game like it’s a Class Based Shooter, and not a First Person MOBA.

How about they don’t destroy their finances by having horrible player retention when they have +5 Million new and returning players walk through the door, and see bad queue times, and think Overwatch isn’t worth their time.

They can’t re-design the entire game out of the blue.

But they can start heading in a direction, and keep going in that direction until it becomes a problem.

I.e. More of these Reinhardt style buffs.

These buffs are awful and don’t solve the tank problem at all.

Tanks still can’t do their job of mitigating damage which is the main problem.

The “problem” is that not enough DPS players find the Tank playstyle enjoyable.

And focusing on mitigation, is a great way to make the Tank playstyle even less desirable to current DPS players.

Making tanks into big dps isnt solving the problem - it’s just creating another.

Tanks need to be ACTUAL tanks and maybe then people would find it more enjoyable.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

Making Tanks have playstyles that DPS don’t like, is a great way to kill this game.

Imo, Rein, Winston, hell all the shield Tanks feel pretty good to play, but just need that little extra something to make them more engaging.

Winston for example, I’d love if his bubble barrier was a resource based ability rather than a cooldown, so I can pick it up and go from spot to spot. If his Tesla Cannon function more like a lightning gun out of Quake.

Just my opinion though

How do you know they won’t like that when the tanks HAVE NEVER been able to actually… idk TANK damage.

Tanking isn’t fun because you’re just a big pushover that dies the moment their shield goes down or is deemed as useless when it happens.

Making tanks actually still be able to perform their job outside of shields seems like a great place to start.

Not adding to damage creep??

How do you know that players who focus on getting kills, avoiding getting hit, and not being reliant on teammates.

Would enjoy doing the exact opposite of that?

Shame they had to give Sigma a rock that stuns instead of something that causes like 1-2 sec confusion or forces you to run away in a certain direction lol

Just give every DPS hero the option to play tank, by giving them 100hp +100 armor
if they choose to play tank.

Look, sometimes you just have to take damage. That’s unavoidable for every hero.

You can’t just decide “any time a tank is tanking its feeding”, since you’d have to completely throw out all the nuances of tanking and overwatch to do so.

Historically, Tanks tank by taking damage. That’s a little different in overwatch, but the core health tanking is still there: it can’t, nor shouldn’t, be avoided. Really, the Overwatch community has no idea what Tanking is; they think Mei’s a tank since she denies space (a job that’s not just reserved to tanks), and not because she’s actually good at tanking damage. Its crazy.

Well, the tanks’ job is to make space, and as each hero should be used for certain circumstances Shield Tanks ALSO mitigate damage, the other tanks are more damage based. And in order to make space like tanks are designed to do, they must be on the frontline, which requires high HP, which comes with bigger hitboxes. So they can bodyblock damage and protect the team, but that comes with the spacemaking and shouldn’t be treated as the universal job of tanking (as there is a sub class designed for this, against snipers or teammates that don’t use natural cover). I don’t think that the tanking category should be reworked and designed around purely damage mitigation, but this is subjective so there isn’t any arguing here.

However the suggestion of tanks giving less Ultimate Charge to enemies I do like, as all tanks are on the frontline. But I do not think that this is required. But of all universal changes to tanks this is probably one of the best IMO.

tanks are fine tbh, they just need to fix the shield tanks so they don’t become meta.

idk how they will do it tho but the tanks need to be on the same level.

They tanked damage. Yet here we are

They could nerf ULTs power so the game doesn’t end up beign who spams more of them to win. 2 pigeons with 1 rock, Tanks won’t feed (even without shields) and base kits and weapons could be reworked and buffed to give people a more fast paced fps experience (what jeff wants)
