Overwatch has had MANY changes over the past few years, some for the better and some for the worse, but how come the changes for the worse are never ever reverted?
I remember seeing somewhere that League of Legends had a rework on a character and they were reverted due to the feedback that the community felt that it wasn’t a step in the right direction.
But Mercy has been moaned about for ages and nothing has been spoken out about her? I personally don’t believe she needs to be reverted but I would love it if the developers spoke out and at least said "Hey, we believe that Mercy is in a good spot and we’d like to keep it that way, if she seems to be underperforming then maybe we can consider a few changes,’ or something like that.
My main issue is that many have also said that Symmetra’s new Primary Fire SUCKS to play with and against. I think that reverting it to lock-on is healthiest for her in general as it would so work with her new kit and with some ramp-up time changes and damage changes, it really could work.
Do you think that the word ‘revert’ is simply out of Blizzard’s vocabulary or is it that they really believe that these changes are 100% what the game needs? I just think that even if reverting is not something they enjoy doing, is changing her primary fire back to its old ways really that big of a deal?
There have been many interviews, posts etc on this matter.
They always boil down to the same 3 words. “Mercy is fine”.
Jeff has gone out on record saying that they do not plan to revert mercy, and they feel the rework was successful. Half of the current mercy posts are moaning about this fact.
Although, in better news, Geoff has stated he would like to improve damage boost, but he is not sure how.
i agree, sym’s current beam is terrible.
the dmg is good but its hard to ramp it up because you need to get quite close to a shield but its really risky.
i don’t think her beam should of been changed at all, it was changed from a lock-on to a straight beam which is hard to track with, that’s a huge difference.
there should of been no change or a little, subtle change.
a non aim hero changed to a pure tracking hero is not good at all.
For a game that I fell in love with due to Symmetra’s iconic kit, I hate to see it slowly becoming less enjoyable. I really think that Symmetra could certainly do with her old 2.0 beam and it should never have been changed to begin with. I’d love to start a movement, one that isn’t toxic like ReworkMercy, something more subtle. We just have to keep discussing it and hope that the devs see how the real Symmetra Mains feel!
ive been fighting for symmetra since her rework last year, i really hate her rework and i really agree with what you said.
symmetra’s special and iconic kit is what drawn me to her in the first place and her design and personality made me like her a lot more.
now symmetra is just a boring, weak zarya copy.
like i said before.
sym 3.0 is un-unique and unfun.
i had so much fun with sym 2.0 and currently i barely have fun with her.
I don’t think changes are made purely because of a lot of loud people. This is why the Mercy police haven’t caused Mercy to get 6 rocket launchers and 4 extra arms.
I just feel like we’re the only ones left here, I barely see Symmetra anymore. Apparently, her numbers went downhill after the rework. I’m not trying to alienate anyone, I’m just saying that a lot of the Sym 2.0 mains have left.
There are few characters that have been talked about by the devs directly more than mercy…Jeff alone has made 4 or 5 of that very statement over the course of past year and a half…
Symmetra is one of my most played heroes. While I absolutely loved her 2.0 I love her 3.0 and only wish to see her tickrate fixed, her tp to deploy faster, or for a turret cooldown buff. I love her alt fire way more now then before. Does that make me a “fake” Symm main?
Because those changes fixed a problem(s) and thus reverting them would be having those problems come back into the game. Many people forget why this game gets patched to begin with, and why certain changes are made, usually because they don’t understand what exactly the devs set out to do.
For both Mercy and Sym, it was to resolve problematic aspects of their kit that didn’t flow well with the game. Mercy played too passively for the evolving philosophy the devs had for the entire support cast, and her ultimate was a burden to balance on top of encouraging a backwards playstyle. Her rework addressed all these issues, taking power out of Resurrect and making it an ability that connects much better with the game. Sym, too, had a far too passive kit, and her methods of support simply weren’t up to date to other supports. By focusing on her damage dealing and turret placement, as well as giving her a very unique utility that many people wanted to see anyway, a lot of her passive issues have been resolved and she’s engaged with the game as much as any other hero.
Now… do problems still exist after these patches? Absolutely. The game is never going to be 100% “fixed,” there’s no ideal state where no one has any problems, ever. With every new patch that addresses any number of problems, the new interactions between heroes will cause meta shifts and bring about a whole new atmosphere, which in turn brings to light new problems never before worried about. It’s always a game of, “Does this hurt the game more than it makes it better?” And that is not a simple question, ever.
Reverts rarely happen because the changes fix what they were meant to fix. Just because the sink stopped leaking doesn’t mean you can remove the seal blocking it and it stays fixed.
TLDR
I don’t like to aim pls gimme auto-lock back
(Oh and let me add a lie about mercy in there too so mercy mains [not all just the ones who wants a revert] will help me)
