Reunion question

So I’m new to overwatch and don’t know much about its lore.

I just watched the Reunion short. McCree faces off with Ashe and the deadlock gang and he takes the crate. What was that robot…thing in the crate?

No one knows it sure who she is.

  • Her name is Echo
  • She was a member of Overwatch and they need her help. Her picture flashed for a frame on the recall short as well.
  • She can be seen in original production photos. Echo had the Athena logo on her head but its confirmed that it was only a filler and has no connections to Athena.
  • Echos body shape can be seen in the first attacker choke of the Temple of Anubis map.
  • She may be a playable character in the future but not the next one.

Her name is Echo. She is a robot who most likely worked for Overwatch before they got shut down and was put into storage after the Petras Act was signed. She and McCree seem to have history together.

Yes she was insided the crate =)

Would have been hilarious if Snake popped out instead.

Why would a snake be in the crate?

r/woooosh⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Unless you meant solid snake which I will have to disagree with no, it wouldn’t really be that funny and the difference in artstyle would be horrifically jarring.

Isn’t he usually in a crate?

Or is it a box? xD

I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the game so I really can’t help you with that.

Haha it’s ok x) I thought it was a crate but I am probably wrong!

We don’t know this for sure.

Different Omnic. Even before Reunion, we were differentiating between “Not Athena” and the Recall White Robot.

We know McCree mentions being recalled and that he thinks she should go instead.
Aka he thinks they (Overwatch) need Echo more than they need him.

Correct. That’s not was. We know nothing about her being a member in the past.

The implication of McCree’s statement & Echo’s acquiescence hugely suggest that she is in fact an ex-Overwatch member.
While it is not stated as outright fact; luckily this is a story, not a data-book - we can infer a great deal of information & near-certain evidence through implication via scenery, dialogue or character alone (& often have to.)

To understand references to Overwatch (“the band”), Winston (“monkey…scientist, whatever.”) & the idea of reforming Overwatch (“getting the band back together”) without their titles/names being used suggests the kind of familiarity than could only have been achieved via being in Overwatch or at least, heavily involved with them.
Never mind that her importance to OW must have some kind of historical merit for her to be “needed”.

If she were to somehow not be ex-Overwatch, that would be incongruous with the information we’ve currently been given & would damage the narrative quality of either Reunion or the follow-up work that contradicts these implications.

It is also incredibly unlikely (even for someone of Echo’s disposition) to merely accept such a task without prior understanding. If she hadn’t been in Overwatch before, McCree’s offer would likely have been met with some kind of questions or concerns.
An Omnic would still need some kind of logistical information on the matter at the very least - especially given her displayed lack of concurrent knowledge.

So while it is not exactly definite at this point, it’ll kinda just be a bit stupid if she wasn’t in Overwatch at some point xD.
