I’m not going to complain about balance but one thing that is really obvious coming from a original overwatch 1 player some tanks are just immortal in 5v5 as a dps player how should I be handling tanks I think its more than just shoot them. There is something I’m missing it seems like every other game I play theres tanks doin like double the damage of the other dps players.
Again I’m not blaming balance but how should I be playing to counter some of these tanks.
arguably the same was true in 6v6, some comps just needed hard ult combo’s to break consistently.
here tho, You can just shoot dps/supports. You have a lot of room to do so. Which will lead to quick kills or force out the big cooldowns early.
Outside of that the same old kill combo’s work as they always did. grav/dragon, emp/bomb, nan/blade, down throw into up smash. The classics are all here if you reall just want to kill the tank outright.
You’re probably going to struggle to kill a tank unless they’re wildly out of position or they misuse every form of sustain they have, we’ve had like 3 patch rotations trying to address solo tanks just blowing up so they’re… Not easy elims, especially not if they’re getting back-up or you’re challenging them solo.
Best you can do? Kill their squishies first. Kneecapping them by removing their DPS/Supports or putting more strain on the ones you can’t get at/confirm a kill on and then all dogpiling the enemy Tank once they are alone/cut off/ the last possible thing to shoot at.
If you can’t do that you can try to play CounterWatch, like play heroes that more directly counter the enemy tank, think Mei vs D.Va and (in the past) bodyguard Reaper vs Winston.
This isn’t comprehensive and they can counter back so…
Also the scoreboard isn’t gospel. Tanks rack up a lot of damage because they tend to stay on field longer but their damage is more liable to be healed off feeding enemy Supports, and depending on the tank (D.Va being a great example but far from the only one) can contribute very little to securing an elim but will get credit for one.

Tanks need to be poked down. You can’t 1v1 a tank. Kite them. Stay out of their effective range. Knee cap them by killing their supports. Burst damage is most effective against a tank.
Also making sure you counter pick the specific tank is helpful. Ana is good into Roadhog for example.
If you’ve heard of the phrase “Don’t shoot the horse” before, basically every tank is now what Orisa is: a horse you shouldn’t shoot unless you have no other options. Unless your team comp can dumpster a tank, you need to dismantle the enemy team’s sustain (i.e. kill the supports) or neuter their damage output (i.e. kill the dps).
You should be blaming the balance, don’t let others deceive you.
