Returning Player Feedback: MMR Feels Completely Off

I recently came back to Overwatch 2 after being away for almost three years. I jumped into a few matches with a friend and got completely steamrolled. I used to be pretty good at the game, but it’s been so long that I barely recognize most of the heroes now, and I no longer know how to play effectively.

One of the main reasons I stopped playing originally was the ranked system. Even when I won matches against higher-rated teams and carried the game, I would only gain about 10 points. But when I lost, I would lose close to 40. It felt unfair and unrewarding, so I decided to stop playing.

Now that I’ve returned, it seems like my matchmaking is still based on how I used to perform. I’m not even sure if the old MMR system is still being used, or how it works now, but whatever it’s doing, it doesn’t reflect where I am as a player today. I’m getting placed into matches that are way out of my current skill level, and it’s making the experience feel frustrating and unplayable.

If there isn’t some kind of MMR reset or recalibration for returning players, I probably won’t be sticking around. I would really appreciate a clean slate to start over and enjoy the game again.

I don’t think qp mmr has changed. But ranked has had some resets multiple times, and seems to have been mmr as well as rank. For example before drives came out (fast gold weps for a weekend at end of season) I didn’t do ranked since s5 ow1. I finished that season at 4450 SR. Doing placements a few seasons ago after like 7 yrs or no ranked on this account, and I was playing in plat to start.

Yeah, that’s were my issue lies. I was hoping to play some qp to get back into the swing of things, and learn about the 6 new heroes that were put into place since I quit playing. My old qp MMR, I believe, was quite high. I feel like the qp MMR is expecting me to play like I did many years ago, which will not happen without me being able to naturally progress back through the necessary knowledge hoops.

Okay, well, there is. So, you should be fine. You need to play more than a few games though for it to figure out where you belong. That’s how ranking systems work
