OW1 Moira is so much more fun to play. And she was fun to play for most of the Beta and clearly fit well (along with Lucio) as a support hero who already leaned into the new, aggressive, individual, brawly design philosophy. There’s so much content and feedback about the OW2 state of supports that described her as one of the viable, fun, and working Heroes. So if Blizz was truly listening to the community and trying to be more responsive, the answer would have been to develop the other supports up to the level of Moira and Lucio - not hollow out a working character.
I found the bait and switch that came late in the Beta to remake her into Something Else very disheartening and unnecessary. And not just for the actual changes, but also their approach to timing such drastic and fundamental character changes the way they did. Why gut her at the end of the Beta? Why not do so alongside the introduction of Junker Queen? Because on some level the sorry state of OW2 supports is obvious (as has been stated time and time again this whole Beta cycle 1 and 2). The further dismantling of the support class to force a healbot playstyle when proclaiming OW2 to be about playmaking and aggressive individualism - which Moira already was about - just makes it clear who Blizz is catering to and reducing friction for - and it’s not supports.
Now back in OW1, DPS Moira is fun - but wildly inappropriate, given the slower, double tank, more team based focus. Now however, I know that playstyle has a place - and has worked - for most of the OW2 Beta so far. But it was scrapped at the last moment for something seems much more at home in OW1 - and just feels bad. Because if Blizz was actually listening and responsive to the community this would’ve been Moira for OW1 so long ago, and current OW1 Moira would be the fun aggressive reveal for OW2.
You conveniently left out how overly strong she was, maybe that had something to do with it? I swear Moira players are often the most willing to delude themselves on things… not saying the Orb change was good or the right move, but to act like “its fine” is ludicrous.
Yeah right. Fact is Moira was blowing it up in OW 2, ya’ll know it too and it was just too easy and good for effort. Nerfs were inevitable, my only surprise was they didn’t start OW 2 beta with the changes…
No one said that she is weak. No one. But old Moira was a lot more fun to play, had different playstyles and did not need any kind of nerfs or forced utility. Why not have a new hero with that skillshot! Why kill moiras old playstlye completely?
She was good in OW2 like Lucio. But they HAD to change her because… reasons???
More fun is probably true, not needing nerfs… she’s needed nerfs for a long, long time. Moira mains thought she’d just get a utility on top, no way when she was already too easy to get value from across the ladder. If you don’t think she needed nerfs, try get the same damage and healing from Ana then come back to me.
She was easily keeping pace with damage/elims and often exceeding DPS in OW 2 (and often in OW1) for far too little effort -that ain’t right. What’s remarkable is it took OW 2 to come around to finally unequivocally force the issue.
Agreed - and yeah I do enough Moira to know. I easily kept almost the same stats as before with more careful positioning and now gained the benefit of what the debuff gave. I do think the debuff needs lowering to say no more than -30%, but the c/d on the orb needs to be brought down as well.
Balancing isn’t a one and done type deal either….nor has it even happened with that Moira yet……that’ll be later and that’s IF they decide to keep her that way
I’m just amazed what people think these betas are supposed to be
moira was very strong in the first and the beginning of 2nd beta but even then she was 3rd best as evident in owl where she was hardly played at all (no insane utility ability). for ladders who knows since comp wont be a thing till release.
i think maybe tweaks with this new utility kit can work out if they decrease all her cooldowns and make necrotic orb a weaker version yet have it on shooter cooldown. she suffers from inactivity on having to wait for EVERY cd. it was painful to play her, you basically were just a healbot waiting till all your cds came up.
having way more fun in the first 10 games back on overwatch 1. there are some games where i felt i contributed more with moira instead of playing ana or mercy but yea my games are low elo games where moira excels at.
for sure i think they will tweak the kit later down the road. necrotic orb is here to stay tho since i know how stubborn the dev team can be. with tweaks tho she can maybe get back to where she was before in power or even be a meta support hero that surpasses zen and ana. maybe if ana and zen get nerfed later too lol
Moira is just another piece of evidence that Blizzard really doesn’t care about the casual playerbase. We’re suppose to provide a stable income by buying BPs while they tune the game for OWL and E-Sports.
Moira’s change was completely unnecessary, it didn’t even need a testing to realise it was a terrible idea. But they’ll push it through anyway, because they think it might make for good viewing in OWL. That’s their main focus and what the goblin in ActivisionBlizzard is pushing for. Don’t try to make any sense of their balancing by thinking in conventional ways, because then nothing makes sense. Think of it instead in a way of how an evil goblin would do it if all he cared about was maxing profit.
The DPS players DON’T WANT viable opponents, and the devs will make sure they get what they want. They already took out a tank the the single tank is easier for them to dive, and made the already fast DPS even faster so they have ZERO problem flanking even faster to destroy your supports.
