This might be highly controversial, but lootboxes absolutely need to be returned as a regular reward for playing, as there is practically 0 rewards for playing the game once the main battle pass is completed.
I understand why the boxes were removed. But why not just add them in as a nonpurchasable feature to the game?
It could not only supplement the smaller free rewards in the battlepasses, on top of getting one every level or every few levels.
Besides, I feel like this could drive negative attention the store has gotten recently for its not so subtle pricing away from itself while encouraging players to play more after theyve completed the pass.
Tl;dr no downside to adding nonpurchasable lootboxes to the game as a reward for playing.
I agree. Give us loot boxes for endorsement rewards or for queuing support. XP boosts are great for daily rewards, but throwing in a loot box here or there would be amazing!
I don’t think having loot boxes will really bring in profit if shop skins will be available inside of them.
You’re basically paying a one time season fee for a BP, and getting the BP items, on top of shop skins. If I’m understanding that right?
What would be put into the loot boxes? I’d agree if it’s to unlock non-event items, like the whites, blues and purples you used to get in loot. And an occasional legendary.
I wouldn’t want them back personally unless I got them for free or if they were dirt cheap talking 100 to 600 credits and or if we got them for playing a specific number of games or just winning matches.
Also I’d like their rates to be like the first game.
So we are approaching the end of the season and what i am seeing is people still didnt get over the fact the OW1 is dead-Yes we got all that for free and random but this is not the case now. I dont think lootboxes are the answer here, the problem is everything is locked behind a real money currency.
What i would like to see is the revival of legacy coins which we can use to buy stuff from the shop (at a much higher price than the OW coins) or even the BP. The shop prices are absurd and altough i like the new hanzo skin i will not buy it with OW coins- if i had the option to buy it in any other way i would.
Well for example Apex is a f2p game, and they give a loot box every other level plus they implement them in the bp. I think thats a good way to get some stuff and not a bad progresion system.
Loot boxes are being heavily clamped down on in certain countries like China, because they are considered a form of gambling. In these countries loot boxes cannot be sold for real or virtual currency, making them a dead revenue stream.
What you can’t put a law on however, is the poor financial decisions and lack of impulse control of people.
So all efforts have now gone into psychological trickery to make some pixels appear as though they have any kind of value at all.
I think the only way lootboxes would ever make a return is if you got a ‘mystery blind box’ at the end of completing a battle pass or something like that. They would only do this if the backlash on store prices and lack of rewards was great enough though.
Lootboxes were trash. If you played at all, there’d come a point where they became useless. Anyone that played the game already had everything, and it just becomes the usual grey-grey-blue-grey of duplicates.
They removed lootboxes to increase prices on the skins in the shop, we’re probably never getting them back Blizzards main focus is making revenue nowadays.
I completely agree with this. Even the events feel so boring now, since there is 0 reward or content for players that have not purchased battle pass or who are not spending money. Back in OW1, at least we knew that there are cosmetics of Seasonal Events that we could unlock by playing the game. Loot boxes should be added which should include non battle pass items.
