Yeah, that’s another issue with Bastion… I like other DPS who can be more independent, like Torbjörn and Junkrat
He is not.
Lore wise, Bastion is so insignificant. Even looking at other insignificant heroes like Lucio and Sym. They at least have history together and the stuff they fight for or against has helped to mould the world in Overwatch. Bastion is totally irrelevant. His animation is cute, but irrelevant.
Game play wise, he is in the worst state out of every hero in the game, hence why he’s getting a full rework for OW2. He dominates games against less coordinated and skilled players, but as soon as you learn how to play rock paper scissors and talk to your teammate Bastion immediately swaps from the most oppressive and dominant force to just about the only troll pick in the game.
Appalling. How some people are defending Bastion’s state is honestly beyond me. I don’t think he should be retired, but heavily reworked. And he is.
For the record, I really don’t care about Bastion’s lore, so I don’t care that it’s limited, but I would like to see him become more complex and less of a pure cheese character that is only effective against dehydrated neanderthals.
I don’t like the idea of retiring heros. From what we’ve seen of Blizz lately I think they always take the easy way out. Not the right way out, the easy way. If we go down the path of deleting heros it’s just a matter of time until Blizz starts deleting everything they can’t balance.
Besides that, how can you say Bastion isn’t a big part of the lore? He’s a cornerstone of it. He represents “the enemy” who’s turned good.

I said nothing about removing Bastion because they are the lowest on the list, nor did I say it was because they fill the role of “swap to when losing” in any way. What I said was:

Historically not true. Highest pick rate characters are personal preference and bastion has always been near the bottom. Probably because it’s not a fun hero to play (for many).
NO. That is exactly my point… Bastion is literally the only hero that requires constant coordinated attention at every rank and has the literal lowest skill floor available. It’s a broken hero through and through; regardless if you one time beat a bastion with your long range hitscan or heard someone say swap to Junk…

This. Exactly this. Thank you MishMash. My nephew. My middle-aged buddy. His son and daughter. Each and every one of them will tell you bastion is one of the main reasons they quit. Not because OF bastion but because a hero that is that broken indicates a broken game. And then they move on to Valorant or whatever is shiny next. OW does not need an artificial gatekeeper.
