Resurrect needs to go

I would honestly prefer a cleanse ability with all the cc and stuns in the game. Res is good, only if you can get it off in a fight. This usually requires coordination from your team and even in low elos of comp thats hard to find. It is possible to lose a fight, res, and perhaps that person can get a clutch ult but rarely does that happen.

I think she’s been a must-pick every since rez was put on a CD. I’ve defended it in the past (this is actually my first complaint thread ever), but it’s only recently become clear to me how much the game has fundamentally changed because of it. There’s a reason almost every OWL team has a Mercy on it even when the players don’t like using her. She’s too important for reverting sniper picks.

Really? Is she at 100% pickrate again? Did I miss something?

She’s not a must pick, is she the strongest pick? Yes. But there’s a difference between a strong pick and a must pick.

Mercy just being there doesn’t put the fight at a 7v6, because there are many situations where Mercy can’t rez, especially if it’s a brawl on point. Plus boops, stuns, or just straight up killing her (because she is practically not even moving) cancels it. Unless she does it very far away on a sniper in the back line, then it’s entirely on you if you didn’t cancel it. Even then it gives you the chance to push in because there are out of the fight for at least 2 seconds, meaning you might even be able to get another kill before the resurrect even goes off.

Rez is fine. Mercy doesn’t need to be nerfed.

EDIT: The reason why she is on every OWL team (I haven’t been paying attention to it so I won;t fact check this) is because the other main healers have their drawbacks. Moira is very comp-dependent and Ana is way to easy to punish. Running Dive with Moira doesn’t work. Running dive into Ana equals a win. And with brigitte in there you need the strong healing so you can’t afford to pick Lucio Zen.

No, those things don’t at all change things on the same level as resurrect. Those are just things that decide how specific situations are going to play out. Rez being on CD has completely changed how every engagement in every game plays out.

True, even without Rez she’d be meta due to the state of other supports and damage boost synergy with Hanzo. But Rez on CD was an issue before this meta, and would be again in any meta, and plus, Hanzo is clearly a bit overtuned and would be without damage boost so eh, I don’t see it as the main issue currently myself.

I’d argue a major part of the issue is the rework as a whole having removed any and all weakness from her. She needs another rework, one that makes Resurrect an ultimate again and returns her to having a few clear downsides.

She is the most-picked or second most-picked hero at every level in the last set of stats I saw earlier this week. I understand that she can’t always rez, but even the possibility of being able to do it makes her too important not to have.

I’m not suggesting a nerf. She is my most played hero, after all. I’m just suggesting a change. She could be given some other powerful ability that helps her keep her team alive and still be very strong. She’d be very strong even with no extra ability.

Mercy was never must pick or even part of meta before rework.

She also wasn’t must pick between last nerf and current meta.

Current meta requires 6-7 specific heroes. Mercy is one of them simply because she fits to the Meta.

Mercy is fine and balanced.

Ah you should probably add that to your OP because the post makes it seem like you want to nerf her.

I’d argue that many abilities readily impact outcome far more than rez.

That’s largely due to rez being quite difficult to get off in many situations.

Yes, it’s a powerful ability. That’s why it makes her basically stand still and glow. That’s why it has a long CD that persists through death.

If Mercy gets off a rez it’s because:

  1. She was covered by her teammates. Good teamwork should be rewarded.

  2. The enemy team did not properly punish her and she got away with being vulnerable.

  3. The rez occured far from regular combat or outside of combat.

Just my opinion, but for me, the fact that Mercy can rez makes eliminating her that much more meaningful and impactful.

Plus, she’s quite squishy, and super easy to kill when not ulting. It’s just a matter of focusing her down before you worry about anything else. Because a dead mercy is a win/win for your team.

I remember the good time when you couldn’t just spam your ult because of Mass Rez, making all more interesting.

I agree that it’s difficult to get off and that it takes a certain amount of skill or teamwork to do it properly. I’m not saying it’s too easy to do or anything. My problem is that, even if she can’t reliably rez in most situations, the fact that it’s even a possibility makes it feel like Mercy has to be part of the team regardless of what everybody else is running.

She could be given some other powerful ability that helps her keep her team alive and still be very strong. She’d be very strong even with no extra ability.

That sounds like something so powerful that should have been kept a an ultimate. Rez is too powerful as an ability. Should have been an ult Oh wait glares at the devs

Right. She is at all times the most valuable kill your team can get because of the possibility of rez. That’s my point exactly. I don’t have any other issues with her as a hero. I love how she feels and I’ve put a ton of time into her since beta, so I understand how to fight her.

I think she’s nearly a must pick in coordinated play bevausenof res. But normal comp, I think her pick rate is so high because of other factors, (mostly her skill required to heal Vs other healers, barrier work around, GA to escape, flight, etc.) not res.

The thing is resurrect is literally a part of her character, it’s not like scatter or sheild generator were their just abilities that you could remove and your not removing a key component of the chaarcter. Literally in almost all of Mercy’s material has res attached to it.

  • Highlight into
  • Sprays/Artwork
  • other material such as statues

All of these has her with res in some way or another. For Blizzard, or anyone to say its not an iconic part of her kit is crazy. In my honest opinion it should go back to either being an ult or should be chargeable in someway or another like Torb armor packs. Having it on a static cooldown isn’t working for her and hasn’t worked for her since the reworked launched.

OP, your issue here is that you are trying to explain this to low-mid ranked players from the perspective of a GM player.

Resurrect is the 99% of the issue for us, but you’re explaining that to people who probably get WAY less shielding and healing than we do when we res. Mercy is the top hero for them (as she has been since day 1) because she has the best healing in such environments.

For the people who actually play where meta is relevant, you’re right, it’ll never be balanced until resurrect is less prominent than it is now.

i honestly think the cool down should be increased form 30 seconds to 1 min.

Her healing stream could also use a small nerf as well.

You’re probably right about that. I don’t think it’s as much of an issue around the middle SR ranks. I’m mostly speaking from the perspective of higher-ranked play. Also, I watch a lot of pro play (definitely coordinated) and it’s frustrating to watch it happen there, too.

You know, resurrect is removed from the game when you kill Mercy.
