Request to have team colors in Replay to automatically be BLUE from whatever side of the teams

Now granted I am fully aware that this is a minimal problem. I’m sure this applies to only a small niche of people. However, as someone who genuinely loves learning how to be better in the game and wants it to be the best that it can, I can’t help but be irked by this quirk in the Replay system.

For right now, as I understand it, when viewing replays for Escort, Assault, and Hybrid the Defending team colors will automatically be assigned BLUE, while Attackers are designated RED. This color designation is seemingly randomized for control game modes.

The problem with this is that when I view this in the replays as an attacker (red) my mind has to a little bit of mental gymnastics to remember that this is my team. I wish this was not the case. For right now my only solution has been to swap the team colors within the options in the enemy/friendly UI color before viewing the replay. That way my team would be RED and the opposing team would be BLUE, then the game would flip that and I’d have blue health bars/outlines. However, this change does not change the colors of enemy turrets outlines or any shields. That sadly remains locked to ATK Red - DEF Blue when viewed in the Replays.

I just want to be able to view the replay in the correct colors as I would see in-game, during an actual match. I don’t think we’d be asking for too much for simply wanting to review our gameplay through the correct, respective perspectives.

  • signed someone who learns so much from their own replays when they’re the right color

P.S. this was my first time ever writing in the Overwatch forums so go easy on me please.

That moment when

“WHY AM I NOT SHOOTING THE ENEMY, THEY’RE AFK IN FRONT OF ME”

and then
“Oh it’s my team…”

One of those “duh” moment things that blizz needs to fix but can’t

They can simply to as it’s more of an overlay kind of thing then it is recorded.

Your comment seems super foreboding to me.

Like, in 6 months something’s going to happen to the guy who necroed this thread.

This right here, this one change would make the replay system pretty much perfect. The recent options additions have been fantastic. I really hope they do at this. It was possible before to change your own team or which ever team you spectate to blue by fast forwarding or rewinding seconds.

Having the team Spectated as red is annoying for two reasons number one it causes confusion and number two red is worst colour for compression because it is a chroma Colour as opposed to luma So when you record your replays the red is blurry.

Yes, please. This annoys me too.

Also, I don’t mind threads like this being necro’d since the point still stands.

I would also like to see something like this!

Yeah this! It’s always weird watching replays where the player ignores all the red dudes all around.

+1 for this! I hate that I want to watch back a good game and spend the whole time I was feeling confused.

we almost in 2022 now and this is still a thing

nearly mid 2022. still red is the new blue.

PLEASE - bumping this in June 2022 because it’s still relevant!

almost 2023 and we still dont have this KEKW

Another voice at the end of 2022 asking for this. Watching my enemies in blue is very confusing. And like the others mention, seems like it should not be too difficult.

I have logged in just to reply to this.
And I usually never bother with forums.

Please Blizzard, it’s a small feature that makes a huge change to the Replay experience.
It seems so easy to implement that it can probably be done within a single shift of a developer.
