Abusive chat is easy to prove - just check the logs for those “F” words.
Cheating - the same.
Processing such reports can be done in automatic way.
But gameplay sabotage is something different. It’s not so easy to find the difference between throwing and playing bad. Because of that many trolls in game use this option to report others who they don’t like.
I saw people been reported for not switching, or for killing enemy during the battle. You don’t like the soldier who always kills you? Just report him!
That’s why I believe “sabotage” option should be removed.
So today my account was suspended. I had a game where I asked for the heal. The answer from teammates was very aggressive with words I don’t want to repeat here. They told me they remember me from last games (maybe I was killing them or something) and don’t heal me for a reason. After I didn’t react, they asked the opposite team to report me.
The funny part is I also got some endorsements and medals from that game and my usual endorsement level is 4. But looks like the report system doesn’t count it.
PS:
I don’t believe it’s fair to ask the opposite team to report somebody for sabotage. Ofcourse they would do it, they are so angry you’re killing them!
Also as I said it’s not the first time I see the situation when a group of people are bullying someone in game (not me) using those reports and asking others to report. Looks like “report for sabotage” is a new way of bullying in Overwatch. Please delete this option from the game.
Actually its not. One requires intent, the other isn’t reportable.
Making mistakes, refusing to swap heroes, or just being bad is not reportable.
Gameplay Sabotage is reserved for people intentionally sabotaging the game. Syms trying to teleport team mates off of the map, Mei’s walling their team into spawn to prevent them from contesting, Hog’s walking into the enemy taking a breather and doing nothing else.
Everything else you mentioned isn’t re-portable, people are just abusing the system.
If you feel you were punished unfairly submit a ticket to blizzard support to try and get it overturned. Keep in mind you might get an automated message so several attempts might need to be made.
I agree with you. But if the system is so easy to be abused it must be changed.
Still the difference between sabotage and playing is not so clear as you say. Let me tell you some examples when I’ve been reported.
As a healer I stayed near spawn the whole round while my team was dying trying to capture the point. Sabotage? Sure thing! But hey, 2 enemy players were camping me the whole round, so I couldn’t get through them. I told my teammates, but they refused to help me and instead of that just reported me.
As Hog I was staying behind the team the whole round while my team was dying trying to stop the enemy’s payload. Sabotage? Sure thing! But hey, they attacked the payload with only 1-2 people at once (1-2 against 6), when I tried to regroup.
my main account is permabanned after 17 seasons for being reported for 1-tricking low tier heroes. when i opened a ticket, the GM told me they ‘dont have the tools to overturn a suspension or account closure’, which im pretty sure is a blatant lie. it looked more like an unwillingness to investigate. if you get enough reports, warranted or unwarrant, you will eventually get suspensions, then ultimately banned.
Sabotage reporting SHOULD be removed from the game. I can honestly say that Sabotage can be anything. .
Cat jumping on the keyboard
medical emergency
ISP worker CUTS the connection.
TORNADO
Wildfire (they are happening in California again).
Virus
WINDOWS UPDATE (microsoft needs to remove forced updates medic service)
The new report system should be
“Abusive chat”
“Chat spam”
“Cheating”
“Microphone abuse”
“Inactivity” - Player receives notification and then is REMOVED from the match if they are NOT within confines of a set team area.
I’m GM ________ at your service, and good afternoon! I want to thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about the silence on your account. If I were in your position, I would feel the same way.
I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and after looking into this here is what I was able to find out. This system is fully automated and due to tool limitations we can not even see these on accounts much less overturn them for players. What I can say though is you should be able to play some QP matches and this should fall off and allow you to compete once more.
I apologize we weren’t able to do that for you, but I’m glad I was able to clear things up. Have a good rest of your afternoon!
In almost all potential false ban cases, lack of playtime skirts the edge between ‘never banned’ and ‘always banned’, which is why I used my Jump to Conclusions Mat.
I’d gamble it’s rank, not luck. People past 3k (and especially past 3.5k) just don’t really care. They may complain, but reporting is too much work. If you were a hardstuck Gold player you’d likely see very different results.
The worst thing that has happened to me in this game was a mute after playing on a tank alt for screaming at our Moira to heal me… but that was in a silver game when I was still learning lol.
I still am traumatized about that Moira til this day 2.7k healing per 10 mins.
Hope they are still stuck in silver or now in bronze.
I guess it makes sense lol, i usually just mute the people if they are toxic cause if they get muted they prob have alts anyway, like everyone has an alt lets b honest lmao. Better to just avoid… or just requeue without avoid if it’s a DPS cause u won’t get them again anyway, unless ur unlucky lol.
Lot of possible reasons for false punishments, but yeah, rank is a big key.
Up here if you get Calvin, “lucky”. Get a Torb one-trick, “unlucky”. That’s it; that’s all people say about it. False reporting is toxic, and apathy from trash gameplay has washed away most toxicity. Even avoiding is somewhat rare.
