Report system is ineffective

I’m out of patience with the throwers in competitive. I’ve reported more than I can remember this season (several a week), but there’s never action against their accounts. I fill out detailed reports that if anyone read or investigated would easily result in a ban.

I’m talking about actual throwers who announce they’re doing it when they don’t get their way. And this is in GM games. These people play enough to know there’s no punishment for their behavior, which is the only reason it’s still happening.

Blizz, please, please, please do something about this. Or offer some communication on it at least. I know it’s hard to wade through the endless sea of complaints that is these forums, but this is an actual issue, not just whining. It’s the single biggest issue this game has. It seems so easily corretible, too. I mean, call me if you need someone to review reports and I’ll do it.

This is the only issue that can make me lose patience with this game. Other issues are a matter of opinion or design preference, but not this. This is purposefully destructive behavior left unchecked and seemingly uninvestigated. Like, if I was a dev, I’d drop everything until it’s improved significantly. I’d rather have no new content for years than leave the report system its current, ineffective state.

They’ll never actually ban them, because all they care about is numbers. “LoOk HoW MaNy aCcOunTs ArE iN tHe GaMe”…

Even if more than half are inactive.

I think it’s more likely that they just haven’t allocated any resources to the system and have fully automated it, which just isn’t a legitimate option in a game like this where one person can so easily wreck the whole match for everyone else. It’s the biggest issue in the game right now but the least talked about.

There is basically no punishment for leaving so what do you expect? This is blizzard’s fault.

Throwing can be subjective if it isn’t blatant.

This is pretty normal.

Not saying it’s perfect, though not every case can really be determined that easily.

The reporting system is completely automated and the reason that it is ineffective for dealing with throwers is that the number of reports in a specific amount of games needed to activate action is very high compared to abusive chat.

They do this because they try to account for people reporting team mates for not swapping heroes or just playing bad. The result is that the system bans for abusive chat too quick if you argue with your team but does nothing for throwers.

This is just the way it is.

It’s true that throwing is subjective, which is why I always have to explain what I mean by actually throwing. I’ve had two incidents in two days where a teammate announced they were throwing in chat because I wouldn’t switch to Mercy or hard pocket them, followed by them standing still or purposefully feeding while berating the team in chat, complete with racial slurs.

It’s frustrating because any human who looked at the evidence would see that it’s the case, but they likely won’t. I mean, one of the throwers finished the match with zeroes across the scoreboard. They wouldn’t even have to watch the video.

I’m sure there are tons of false reports burying my legitimate ones, which is why automating isn’t the answer. Maybe reports by players in good standing should be more heavily weighed. I hate having to rely on the rest of the lobby to fill out a report. They rarely do because it’s widely known that the reports do nothing, especially on console. Not sure why it’s different between platforms, but our action rate seems to be incredibly low.

i think they do that s the system can easily be abused like some will say your throwing as your playing a no mega op character or they just hate the character your playing as

Ineffective?

Lol it’s straight up not working on console as far I as I know. Others have said the same.

Legit I’ve also reported some pretty bad players from them putting some pretty bad stuff in chat (racial slurs and talking about killing people based on the color of their skin). I’ve reported people straight up throwing matches without little reason to second guess.

I’ve received zero action taken reports since season1.

I used to get them regularly in Overwatch1 but now Nada.

don’t bother writing a comment when you report people. Nobody reads them anyway, they’re automated.

I feel it is just because console players do not report throwers. They report people playing heroes they do not like. So, the automated system does what it is meant to do and automates that process.

Even on PC, it seems that more people report for “cheating” than anything which is why people are getting falsely banned for cheating.

The new system they introduced is nothing but lies.

What’s the point of the defense matrix initiative if they claim they are recording chat conversation and voice communication, but they can’t even review that? Kys is an easy follow up. Calling people racial slurs is an easy follow up. The proof is there.

That should be at the very least a easy and prove-able ban or muting them.

Report system is absolute garbage. At least in Overwatch1 I used to get confirmation messages.

I’m not lying when I say I think it’s bugged because I’ve been asking around and literally no one else on console has told me recently that they have gotten an action successful message either.

It’s possible maybe they got rid of the action taken successful message…

Idk. I’m tired of it. I wish they would of followed through with the SMS protection because even if people get banned- they can come crawling back to troll even harder.

Actually the ban system works like in any other games . Get certain number of reports - you get banned . There are no live supports to check every single report and the reason for it . I got banned in OW1 for no reason . I didn’t even use voice chat or chat at all . I disabled it . And I was banned for abusive chat . WAIT , WHAT ? Joke of a game tbh . No wonder it’s dying that fast . I even started enjoying CS and Valorant more than this game . Which I never believed it will happen . Seems like those games are not so toxic and atleast , they are not that unbalanced like OW2 . Don’t wanna talk about balance , matchmaking , toxic people and etc .

I am so paranoid that I will get mass false reported that I just simply won’t play the game even if I wanted to.

I think I saw the “action taken” message twice ever in OW1. Haven’t seen it yet in OW2, and I’ve definitely reported more people in OW2. Pretty sure it’s common knowledge on console that you can do whatever you want.

So we’re going to ignore the mass amount of posts talking about being banned then?

That’s cool

One of the main problems with games like this is that 99% of the time they shouldn’t be taken seriously or the total player count would be 0. People want to use the report system as a means of control. 90% of the time you’re going to get reported simply because you’re not playing the game the way they want you to play. That’s anything from playing the wrong hero to having a bad game.

Honestly the competitive mode has no point to it anymore, since the game is free access. I haven’t played competitive since Overwatch “2” “launched”.

I assume that because anyone can freely make an account, there isn’t a point to it anymore. Since match maker isn’t going to be able to form a solid match.

I do hope soon ™ that they decide to start charging 35 dollars per new account again and put an END to the “free” game. So that way it starts to sift out some of the problems.

I remember back in Overwatch 1, all they really should have done is kept players under 100 hours of playtime OUT of Competitive, and kept with a Competitive SR and endorsement rating system so that way it would have helped the competitive scene much better.

Instead… they do the complete opposite

There’s just as many if not more posts asking why throwers and other players getting reported continue to exist in the game in such high numbers. If the system actually worked, they would be weeded out and even if they created another account would do less things that would continue getting them banned.
You’re going to ignore that?
That’s cool
