"Report me for bad battle tag"

So, I’ve been seeing a ton of “Report me for bad battle tag” groups when I go to find a group and I know they want a free name change and all. But does this really work?-

I thought that getting actioned for a bad BTag left you with a generic name.

left you as player, then you change your name with a free one they give you

Why not then just create the name you want at the beginning anyway? What am I missing?

They do it after they’ve used up all their free name changes, people can change their mind anyways.

If your BattleTag is deemed inappropriate by Blizzard it will be force changed to “Player#12345” (suffix will vary). You must still pay to change you tag appropriately to a name of your perference.

OK, a couple of qs… I really don’t understand this.

  1. we have free name changes? where it this done?

  2. if someone is on their last namechange… why create an inappropriate name just for the purpose of getting another rename? Why not just name what you want and be done with it. Is it just to troll? I’ve seen plenty of straight up obscene words in player names and don’t get why this is something someone wants to even try if it will get them flagged for it?

you get one free name change

Thanks. So what I gather here is - someone uses their free namechange just to put something toxic as their name…only to get called “Player” and pay for a namechange later as WM just said above? Eh I still don’t get it but I guess humans are weird.

When you make a new account with blizzard you can choose your name, after that you can get 1 free name change. if you use it then you have to pay for further new name changes.

If you get reported for having an offensive name, blizzard will change it to “Player#1234”

nope, if they force a change, they will give you a free change up to 3 times? i think

had it happen to myself, even though my battle tag wasn’t bad

This article should provide enough information, Blizzard Support - BattleTag™

Some think it’s an automated system, so even if their name isn’t inappropriate they could still get their name set back to Player and are given a name change. Blizzard doesn’t always know why the community finds it a bad name, hence why they probably just do it anyways even if it’s not blatantly inapproriate.

People’s preferences change.

I spent over 2 years before I decided my gamer tag so this wouldn’t happen. Most people aren’t so careful.

nope.
i tried doing it with my second account and i got banned from naming custom groups and lobbies for a week.

here is what they said in the email…

“It has come to our attention that you are trying to get a free battletag change by asking others to report you in the hopes we’ll change it - however as your tag is not inappropriate, we’re not going to change it for you for free.”

“Due to these player reports, we have disabled the ability of this account to name custom games.”

i still have the account so its all good… :eyes:
but i guess i will stick to that dumb battletag that i didn’t think so much when i choose it.

i report them for bad group title instead lol, its hilarious, sometimes you see ‘dont report for bad group title’

like dude… LFG isnt for free name change place. gtfo

How much is battle tag change?

I reaaaally seems like what you said would happen all the time, and feels like I’d probably be not worth tryna cheat the system, and better just to pay a bit. :man_shrugging:

it works, you can also open a ticket and ask for free one, it might just work. I asked them once, and they gave it to me, i also got one free appearance change in wow and one free btag change.

One of the reasons people might not to pay for one is because they aren’t in a super great financial situation, Or don’t want to waste the money. I guess it’s understandable
