Can someone tell me where the replay’s are stored. Hopefully locally so I can send to someone else to view.
I havnt updated, but from what i read yesterday, the game holds up to 10 in the career profile area but does not store them for you externally from the game, for that youd need to use your own recording software.
This is because its not just a “replay” of what you did, its not a recording of your pov, its the actual game how it played out, from every perspective. Much more complicated than a normal video file.
I would imagine there is some sort of data file that dictates what the UI shows you. Not a literal storage of all the graphics, etc.
That stinks you still have to use your own recording software.
There are definitely files surrounding the replay software, there has to be…but from my understanding, no file you can click to open a video file of your game from your pov, if thats what you were looking for.
It makes sense, the replay system is pretty in depth, if it was just a basic pov it would be much less usefull, and honestly getting some recording software isnt too tough. At least we have a way other than completely recording every game, or the highlight system which always seems to pick the wrong play for me.
I understand. But no doubt the ability to share with someone else your game play would be highly valuable. Would be nice to be able to share or upload somewhere for someone to open within the OW UI.
That would be cool, just a way to clip a part of a game you had recorded, then share in ui. Maybe a bit tougher on console but wouldnt be the first time pc got something different.
it would also be nice if we could delete replays, that way if you have an extended play session you can delete less useful games (like easy wins)
I thought I heard in the dev update Jeff said since they are only a rolling 10 replays if you want to keep one you need to save it before it rolls off? Or am I dreaming?
So they do roll off, with patch updates, but he said youd need to save them by making recordings of whatever you want to save, i think he also specifically mentions using third party software to do that.
Mostly its a small game engine record file, way smaller then a video.
As example, the unreal engine had such a function included before.
Yeah, its probably just metadata (xy cords, etc), nothing heavy like an actual video that would be gargantuan to store all that for millions of users.
I really hope there is a way to send video to blizz. If we can go back and see everyone’s game play and prove to blizzard who is trolling maybe they can do something.
