Appropriate^ lol

LW rejecting soldier lol

It is an industry standard to have characters sound like plastic, its perfectly normal in video games.

Another opinion? I feared you’d run out!

I like his VA though…

The audacity.

Uh, no. His VA is great and any issue with cadence is 100% on the director, not the person reading the lines without any context…which is an incredibly common problem, and with Blizzard firing the majority of their actual talent, should come as no surprise.

i think his line delivery is flat but certainly not as irritating as kiriko’s voice lines/sassy delivery

what happened to the kiriko from the cinematic, the kind caring protector

what we got was a sassy angsty teen

How about Christopher Walken? xD

I bet you no one is gonna argue what lifegrip does with Christopher Walken’s voice lol

LW’s voice actor is Thai…so…like…no one can really get offended.
plus the actor is kinda hot …just sayin

You can have good cadence and a smooth relaxed voice. They’re not mutually exclusive.

The current V.A. actually sounds incredibly cartoonish in the same way a voice actor for a children’s cartoon would. The lines are read with too much emphasis at times, making it feel like an adult having a conversation with children instead of other adults.

^This is all that needs to be said.

Back in OW1, somebody made a video where every hero was Terry Crews (I couldn’t find a video)

Uh he has an accent? You expect emphasis to be perfect in English if it’s a second language?

Plus, you can’t really expect a guy who grows up wealthy to not have a slight “you are beneath me” tone to him.

It’s clear that they were going for this kind of voice for him, VA does after all have people directing him when doing the voices.

Plus, have you heard all the other over the top cartoonish voices in the game? It’s a style thing cause…well they aren’t real, and they are heroes and villains.

LW is dubbed better than Echo.

That matters none. I also speak English as my second language with an accent, and I can understand how the inflection of my tone changes how my words are perceived. Plus, he’s a voice actor and his job depends (or at least should depend) on him being able to voice act, no?

And it has nothing to do with accents. It’s a matter of when emphasis is applied in his speech that gives his character personality. (e.g. LIFE-weaver, life-WEAVER, li-FE-weaver, etc.)

His dialogue being flat is what I blame the directors/script writers for. His performance could also be impacted by poor directing, but I refuse to believe that when there are so many other great voices in OW.

Look at other characters in the game (Ramattra, Sigma, Junkrat, Doomfist, Reaper, Wrecking ball, Zenyatta). All of them have flavor and impact when they speak their lines, even though a lot of them are reading bland/unoriginal fluff scripts.

It’s no excuse for a passionless performance.

Yes because there’s a style they chose for Overwatch. Lifeweaver does not follow this style. He sounds monotone, even when adding inflection to his lines.

The only section of voice acting that sounds reminiscent of Lifeweaver in Overwatch is when other characters provide equally poor deliveries of their lines (Ana, Kiriko, Mei, and Tracer having a few instances of poor deliveries that I can remember off the top of my head).

Lot of armchair casting directors and performance critics really flexing their “knowledge” in this thread.

Really starting to border “I don’t like that this actor’s first language isn’t English so he has an accent” in here tbh.
