Replace leavers with bots?

One solution that other games use is swapping in a bot (often live, right into the player that left) if a person leaves. Why not use that in QP? You could still backfill, but at least then a leaver wouldn’t almost certainly ensure a loss.

We just lost a round that looked really promising, but we had a leaver at the first point and then the slot wasn’t filled until the very end. Total waste of time for both teams. A bot would at least be someone else for the enemy team to shoot.

Considering how bots can be exploited by the other team since it’s an AI and not an actual player I don’t think this would be a good idea unfortunately…

It’s a reasonable thought dude, but people around here are really into the prospect of the all or nothing approach, and they refuse to hear any other option

They demand people stay, or face terrible punishment

I feel like that would cause a lot of feeding. On the off chance that it doesn’t, I also feel like the enemy team would be annoyed by it since its practically aimbot.

Considering the lowest rank can beat AI at the hardest difficulty this would be an easy feed for well anyone above a bronze-low silver MMR.

No… they will do nothing but feed the enemy team constantly.

Like a lot of people have said, they are exploitable.

Also, half the heroes in the game aren’t available as AI in custom matches. Not sure if the AI doesn’t exist in game, or it’s just limited for some bizarre reason. Making those bots may require diversion of resources from other, more important, improvements.

This^ Any bot is just free ultimate charge.

I couldn’t play a worse Widowmaker in a comp match if I played with my feet, but I can go 22-0 as a Widow in a Hard vs AI game

so… yeah. In all likelihood it would be worse than being down a player.

I wish you wouldn’t lose SR if someone on your team left the match before the last minute or so (of course the leaver would still lose SR, possibly more than an average loss). This happens way too often. The SR penalty for leaving a match should be significant, especially if that player didn’t just time out or disconnect, and the rest of the team doesn’t deserve to lose SR for that match. I love your idea of getting a momentary bot too.

I’m mostly talking about QP. Bots would introduce sooooo many problems in comp (feeding if too bad, potentially carrying if being too good).

If they put bots in the game to refill, im done and quit. I didnt play multiplayer to play against Ai bots. That was the worst thing they did in Gears of war. The bots where so stupid but if they once decide to shoot at you, youre dead because they hit all shots of their machine gun because of aim bot. Its the worst feeling i ever had in a video game, to die in a multiplayer game trough a bot.

My solution let people search for ranked games who have already a leaver to refill it. The refiller will get no sr loose or win but will get 25 credits as reward dont matter ifyou loose or win.

Not until they make semi-smart Ai

Bots don’t have to suck. There have been games where the bots were good and really did present a player-like experience. Unreal games had the best bots…

people have been suggesting this for two years. here’s why it won’t work:

in some cases a bot will perform better than an actual player. if not, the bot becomes ult-charge for the enemy.

and what hero will the bot be? will the game auto-choose the best for the meta? always choose a healer?

it just won’t work.

Depends. At low tier it would probably be overpowered lol

Oh well.

In that case I wish they’d increase the leaver penalty in QP a bit and maybe make it so once you have 2-3 leavers the match just dissolves, because those matches where people just leave and leave are absolutely miserable.

I actually really like the idea of throwing a bot in to replace a leaver; perhaps spawning them exactly where the leaver was when they left, and then after that having them act as a normal player on the team (spawning at regular spawn when they die, running back to objective.) That way you’d at least have SOMETHING on your team while it was trying to fill the space.

I don’t think the bot should stay if the game manages to find a human replacement, but it could at least be something to help out when you’re struggling 5v6. Good idea!

Then they have no incentive to try. And bots are too strong? Please tell me that was sarcasm. The Overwatch bots are pathetic.

Quickplay - Eh, I don’t know
Comp - HELL YES
