Rendering Device Lost

I’ve been playing Overwatch since 2016 on a 2013 MacBook Pro without issue until recently. After a particular update (sometime around when Aaron Keller’s blog post about exploring 6v6 came out) the game started crashing constantly with the rendering device lost error. After attempting to lower the settings as much as possible, I figured it’s time to finally get a real gaming laptop. I purchased the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 with RTX4070 and was immediately blown away by the difference in graphics and performance and frame rate.

However… I’m still getting the rendering device lost error. Like everyone else, I’ve followed the dedicated support page with no luck. I’ve also tried adjusting every other setting that I could find from Googling around.

  • I’m using the NVIDIA app to optimize the game settings
  • I’ve adjusted settings using the Lenovo Vantage app
  • I’ve made sure that NVIDIA GPU is being used and not the integrated GPU

I’m at a complete loss. Sometimes I’ll play for several hours without issue. Other times it’ll crash immediately.

Please help :frowning:

Is the issue with Overwatch or with the computer? Are there particular settings in Overwatch that I can lower to avoid this? I have no ideas left, so any feedback is welcomed.

If you’re seeing that error, it’s local to the computer. Sometimes you need to remove all drivers for the GPU with Display Driver Uninstaller and then install the last-known stable driver for your model.

run DDU and re-install the latest drivers. if that doesn’t work

play for 2 hours and restart the game every 2 hours :frowning:

just a suggestion.

Ok, that’s helpful to know and at least narrows down my search. I’ll give that a try

If restarting works, it could be a pagefile space issue or overheating.
