Rendering device lost. Application closing

I’ve already done all troubleshooting in this article: Blizzard Support - Rendering Device Lost
My drivers are up to date, my game isn’t over heating. What do I do

I’m having the same problem I see you haven’t got an answer blizzard sucks **** anymore

Yea it’s ONLY overwatch that has this issue. not even WoW has this. So i just gave up. I don’t know why it’s doing it. I have a 4080 RTX and 13th gen intel computer, not even a year old and can’t handle it.

Constantly getting this, never had problems with this game before until recent updates.

Same here, crashed twice today then decided to take a break before I get a penalty. And like jattix said it’s only overwatch that has this issue.

Starting getting blue screen shut down. Check my memory in windows had issues seems to be working now. I’ll try to find a thread that sent me in the right direction.

anyone has gotten new info yet ? still crashing

No. The game is starting to crash a lot now for some reason.

Howdy!

“Your Rendering Device has been lost! Application closing!” errors can certainly be frustrating to deal with. I do want to provide some more insight into this error.

A Rendering Device Lost error is a Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) error. It occurs when the GPU does not respond to Windows on time or reports back an error that the GPU has reported. This process aims to ensure the PC doesn’t crash so the program crashes instead, though in some serious cases, you will still bluescreen, or the PC may still crash and restart itself.

This type of error has multiple sources, which can make it tricky:

  • Driver issues:
Performing a clean install with a program like DDU of your current driver or a last known working driver is a good idea.

  • Third-party software conflict(Think overlays, overclocking software, streaming software, or any Directx software in general.) Placing the system into Selective Startup can help here(Make sure to restart the PC).

  • Overheating GPU gets to a point it starts to bit-flip data becomes incorrect. Check out our overheating troubleshooting Here.

  • Stability issues such as unstable overclocking of the CPU, GPU or RAM. Try reverting the system back to default settings. In some cases, checking for a Bios Update or resetting UEFI settings back to optimized default can help.

We can’t troubleshoot the last two issues:

  • Unstable Power Delivery from either the power supply or motherboard.
  • Faulty hardware of the GPU itself.

From here, if issues are still occurring, we recommend consulting with the GPU manufacturer or a local PC repair shop. You can always consult with our Technical support team for me details if you would like Here.

Thank you.

Finally i found someone else with same problem since OW2 beta! In my situation, my PC don’t fit min specs :joy:

And seems that blizz don’t care for low-end people and don’t add to cloud catalog (geforcenow, xcloud etc)…

Tried all of these,
not working. Also overwatch is currently the only game i’m having problem with after mauga launches (it was fine before)

I found out that overwatch always crashed when the gpu board power reached like 150+, i have no idea why it uses that much power, yesterday it was running with below 100 watt (i have the same amount of fps with same setting, around 200+fps) and it didnt even crashed once for the whole day of playing overwatch. RX 7600 btw.

By the way, my other games run fine even when theyre running 150+ watt, i only have this problem on overwatch

the devices i used stay the same. nothing changed, thats the weird problem. yesterday ow was running fine as well, albeit it crashed my driver once in the morning (restarted it and then it was fine), it was literally unplayable last month though.

Update on this problem, the last update fixed mine since i have been able to play without any problem even after hitting 100+ board power.

I got the same problem and I found that I was running my RAM at 6000Mhz but my CPU 13400F supports only 4800Mhz. I set a limit to my ram in BIOS settings to XMP 4000Mhz and it’s fixed.

hey, I was having the same problem here on my PC, I tried everything I could to fix it, even changing the GPU memory frequency, but nothing solved it. The last attempt was to completely format my computer, and not install any video drivers, I let Windows itself do that and I’ve played more than 20 hours of Overwatch since then without any problems. The problem now is that I want to update the drivers but I don’t know if by doing so the game will still work correctly, but for now I haven’t updated!!!
