So was thinking the other day after multiple people have complained about hanzo one shotting people and widows op power etc. What if blizzard removed headshots totally from the game.
Edit: okay so most of you are thinking headshots are removed and health and damage don’t change. No. So let’s say to kill a road hog with headshots is about 4 hits, so that gets implemented to body shots. So about 8 shots maybe or something like that. Everyone’s damage and health will be fixed around the issue.

Headshots are a crucial part of the game

One shot better than hack
That would make characters like Mei, Widowmaker, McCree, Genji, and Reaper almost essentially useless since currently they rely on headshots to actually get damage output
So no.

Just said mccree gets a damage buff, so clearly people who rely on headshots, gets a damage buff. Also widow maker still outputs 125 a shot, that’s a lot of damage still.
This is an awful idea it would punish people who are good enough to constantly land Headshots

Not necessarily. I can certainly see this heavily affecting Widow and Tracer, but for everyone else it might be a net positive, would allow Mei to get in range with little to no fear, Reaper already relies on rng to do his job so he’s be about the same.
It might work pretty well if I’m being completely honest, I don’t think it’s likely to be implemented, but I’d at least like this as an arcade mode to try it.
Good luck killing a Roadhog without your entire team with you.
I think you have good intentions but that would not be good. They can individually fix Hanzo and widow but removing headshots entirely would remove the reward for skilled DPS. It would also severely weaken characters like reaper, mei and solider. It would also make characters like Moira, Zarya and Winston much stronger. And severely buff healers because 1) they can not be quickly killed and 2) less people would die … this would throw off the entire kill rate in the game and ruin capture point timers and things like that.
The game would be much less skill oriented and much more survivable.

Yes, let us lower the skill of the game even further!
Soon the game will automatically play itself, you just have to pick your hero and then sit back and relax. Only then will the game truly be rid of this balancing issue called “skill”.

Yes, power creep is the best solution.

Bit of an unpopular opinion, but i think 2x is too high and introduces issues with variance and at high tier introduces an issue of heroes performing outside their intended role or making certain roles redundant. Like just as an example, mathematically genji can chase a winston into his bubble and overpower him with headshots, this would be an example of a hero performing outside their intended role. On the other hand everyone has been on reddit and seen a hanzo not moving not aiming and spamming arrows into a choke and getting a triple from headshots, or youve freaked out, spammed and railed out consecutive headshots unintentionally winning you a fight you had no right winning.
Just my opinion, but i think that people should be rewarded just as much or more for game things like gamesense, creativity, positioning and teamwork apposed to overwhelming aim overruling any other relevant factors.
Yeah I dislike headshots, especially for spread weapons. I’ve lost so many Sombra on Sombra battles or been one shotted by reaper solely because the other guy got lucky on headshots due to favorable spread. When you’ve got a ton of spread, headshots are just a matter of luck for most characters. Tracer might be the only exception since she can zip up to you and time a headburst perfectly, but for most characters, aiming at the head is barely even worth it, you just aim upper torso and hope to get a favorable RNG. Yet getting that favorable RNG makes a big difference in terms of damage.
That being said, McCree and Widow should have headshots, possibly some others. Since for them getting a headshot is often more about skill than pure luck. But aside from the precision hit-scan heroes, I’d prefer if they just slightly buffed their base damage and removed the headshots or at the very least reduced the headshot multiplier to something much lower, like 1.2x or 1.3x.

This would be removing another skillful aspect to the game, which is not needed. It just doesn’t make sense either since so many heroes are based around the ability to get a headshot.

No-brain characters such as junk and hanzo should definitely not reward crits on their head.
That’s not how that works. For one thing you’re failing to account for the impact that healing has. Dealing half damage but full healing makes supports absurdly strong. Some heroes are also more reliant on landing headshots to achieve their potential. For a hero like soldier, his bas damage and fire rate generally make headshots just translate into a small overall damage bonus. Other heroes like widow and McCree use headshots to deal extremely high burst damage, since every successful shot is double an already high value. Heroes like Tracer or Sombra use headshots to try and one clip unsuspecting targets during flankers. If they couldn’t do so, their job would be so much harder.

Snipers have this trait of one hit killing people. The problem with Hanzo is that he can perform well in any distance. The “problem” with Widow is that the really good ones are REALLY good ones, but that’s not different from a person who master other heroes and bring hell on the enemy team.
Removing headshots is awful to the game design and goes against the principles of basically any shooter, where you always should prioritize a weakpoint.
(Add headshots for Reinhardt! That hammer in the face must hurt more than Widows bullet. Agonizing death…)
Making the game unskilled and unsatisfying and throw the game balance completely out of whack. Why not.
