EVERYTIME I play the custom games, I get extremely annoyed by this absolutely useless AFK timer and the sometimes unavoidable kick. Seriously Blizzard, remove this.
I get, that it’s useful for Quickplay and comp but in the custom gamemodes it just doesn’t make any sense.
And it’s not like you could stop people from farming anyways. There are always multiple AFK-Servers and the timer is just annoying those, who try to play some funny games.
Here are some examples:
Getting Kicked while hiding in “hide and seek”
Getting kicked because you don’t find anyone to hit in “hide and seek”
Getting kicked in “If I see you move, you die” because you may not move or there is no one near to hit.
Getting kicked in a “boss fight” while being the boss and not being able to hit any Tracers or Widows as Reinhardt.
Getting kicked in a “Headshot Only” mode because you can’t hit anyone.

At least let the owner decide if the AFK-Kick should be enabled or not.
It is really useless and just kills the fun of playing.

AFK timer is turned on to fight against EXP farms. Jeff said a long time ago they maybe wanted to let you turn it off at the cost of no exp, but nothing has come of that so far.
When the feature first came out there was no AFk timer but half the server browser was just “FREE EXP/FRAMING”.

I know but…It doesn’t work…There are still AFK-Farms
I think that at the very least they should allow the creator to disable it for the skirmish game mode since regardless of how long you play in those you still don’t get EXP from it.

I was playing a custom 1v1 with my buddy and I got kicked for being AFK while fighting.
But the AFK timer has caused more harm than good. The amount of times my friends have been unable to get kills in headshot games or games with heroes that have high survivability and have been kicked is too many to count.

Unfortunately making sure people have incentive to buy lootboxes takes priority over this.
I hope it goes away too. It’s really hard to adjust my custom game settings while in the middle of a game. I’ve set up a mode where it’s 2, 3, or 4 players versus 6 AI so we can actually practice because the current AI modes in the game are too easy and boring. It requires a lot of constant tuning to make things properly challenging and being hassled by the afk timer is such a nuisance.
If they are so concerned about EXP farming why don’t they just use the custom game browser search feature and delete all the games that call themselves “AFK XP farm” outright? Because there are a ton of those.
Yesterday half the custom game browser was just those kinds of games so clearly the inactivity kick isn’t working. They seem to have found some way to get around the kick. Meanwhile people who just want to play get hit by a super fast inactivity timer. It’s ruined so many headshot only games for me. They can keep the timer, but OMG it needs to take longer to trigger.
Maybe a certain test could end this:
The game should register if you move randomly or in a certain direction.
Or maybe they could implement something like “press 123 on the keypad”.
The Main issue is, that the game doesn’t register right if you are AFK or not. If I cannot hit anyone in 10 seconds doesn’t mean I’m being AFK!
I’m new to the game, literally started friday night. I was being taught by someone in 1 on 1, you know, to get used to the game mechanics/controls or whatever and I was kicked multiple times just because I was having a hard time finding him on the map. That was beyond aggravating.
Rework the AFK timer entirely, to be honest. There have been times that I’ve been set up on the payload in a competitive game and it wanted to remove me unless I switched modes then back again. It’s really stupid.

I just played the custom games again (If I see you move you die) and was just running around (NOT BEING AFK). Then the timer showed up and I had the choice between GETTING KICKED or KILLING someone randomly, destroying the game for them.
