Remove the ability to do placements in the last 2 weeks of a season

I think its very exploitable how many people wait until the final days of competitive to do their placements therefore being placed high and purposely avoid decay.

What exactly do you mean by “exploitable”? When a player is placed, they’ve earned their rank.

Some people are either not interested in grinding competitive for an entire season, or are just turned off by decay in general. I don’t see anything wrong with these people playing whenever they want, though.

Diamond and up are the only ones who decay. Why punish every one else for that? Some people are busy and can’t do their placements until last minute. They’ve still earned their rank. The majority shouldn’t be punished by the minority.

I dont think its really fair for one player to have to grind to achieve a certain rank while another who has already achieved that just gets to constantly keep that rank without actually having to play the game. The decay system is in place to give players a requirement to comtinue playing after their placements, if people can just wait until the last couple days therefore skipping the decay they are exploiting the system.

It really wouldn’t be as bad if placements didn’t take your last season’s end in account.

I’ve been doing this for the past 3-4 seasons. There are times when I won’t be playing the game for weeks and decaying feels bad and is not deserved. I’d be playing Competitive a lot more if decay was removed, at least for everyone not Top 500.

I guess I just don’t see it that way. You have to play at a certain level or grind your way up the ladder to achieve a high rank. If you’ve done so and you maintain the same level of play, you’ll continue to place at the same rank.

If you take months off and lose the skills you developed, you’re going to start tanking SR/MMR and drop down, even if you only do your placements.

Oh yeah, I was more thinking of it only being implemented in diamond+, its not meant to make it worse for the lower ranks its more the make the players in higher ranks actually have to earn their rank.

I agree with what Equinox said. As someone who just hit diamond a few seasons ago, decay quickly became something that pushes me away from competitive. It sucks when you know you have a busy week coming up and you’ll drop a few hundred SR before you can get back into the grind.

IMO, decay should be applied to GM and only GM. These players are the top of the top, and they already work hard to achieve those ranks. For diamond and masters players, it feels cumbersome.

Let me ask you, why do you think you deserve your rank? If you arent willing to continue to play post placements where losses and wins actually matter then how can you say you are that rank.

Because I’ve consistently placed and played in the same rank for 8 seasons. I never said I’m not willing to play after placements. I said there are times where I won’t be able to or willing to play for a few weeks, and decaying feels bad.

Decay is the real problem. If anything, your SR should radically change instead of this slow climb nonsense. People who can keep their rank through consistency should and other than that, they should go back down where they belong. No need to artificially force people into the middle.

Thats not how placements work, they basically just place you back at the same rank you ended at and since you never lost any matches post placmemts last season or deacyed you end up staying the same rank basically forever.

My experience in competitive says otherwise. I can tell you my whole story if you’re interested. It’s a long one, though.

How is it an exploited when its not against ANY rules?

think about that for a minute.

that only affects above diamond and those below it outnumber those above soooooo, also other hobbies exists, jobs, lives.

so ban anyone that just plays the first 10 matches then?

Something doesn’t have to be against the rules to be exploited - in fact exploit generally refers to taking advantage of things for which there aren’t any official rulings in place (i.e. a loophole).

Sir that is masterful use of game mechanics PLUS some people are busy and just play late into the season.

The brig super jump was an exploit it didnt break any rules.

When mercy used to gain massive amounts of sr from rezzing it was an esploit but didnt break any rules.

Exploits dont have to break the rules.
