Remove the <500 SR label - it’s useless and punishes lower ranks

Hi,

Today I’m here to talk about something which really bothers me and which I think is one of the worst design decisions Blizzard has ever made.

It’s the hiding of ratings below 500 from the users who have them.

It’s just flatly ridiculous - punishing a full 2% of your player base to dissuade a microscopic percentage of 1 SR throwers from attempting the stunt.

Overwatch is a good game, but at lower ranks, it’s simply sadistic: at my level of Elo hell the game has lost all of its appeal, tainted by teammates who rarely ever group up and games which have simply become “whoever cheeses more wins”.

We Bronze players go through hell trying to get to a rank where our games regain some semblance of sanity, with the deck massively stacked against us.

We at least deserve to know what our SR actually is.

you’re at 500 SR right? Or does it not show anything beneath that?

It doesn’t show anything beneath 500 SR - just gives you a “less than” sign.

But anyway I’m ~490 right now: I fell under for the first time today.

when you’re below 500SR it only will say “<500SR”. apparently when it used to say 1SR, etc it encouraged people to throw to tank their SR so they could have the 1SR label.

this is an odd and probably insensitive rhetorical question, can you get to 0 SR?

Well, I guess we can’t see it so IDK.

I have no idea why they wouldn’t show you your rank then. If you’re not too attached to this account you can always buy a new one when it’s on sale and it might attempt to place you around gold.

Ok quick question, when you win a game do you get to see your sr climb or does it just stay at 500 ? If so then that’s dumb, you should be able to know if you are actually progressing.

The <500 stays there until you climb back above 500.

I have a question, how is your rank below 500? In thought it was impossible because when you first get placed thr system puts like 1.2k+

I was placed 2084 in Season 8 and just kept falling. I had moments where I thought I had stabilized, but eventually I hit full-on Orisa-Torb-Bastion-Sym Elo hell and couldn’t climb any more, especially with my awful PC and internet…

It’s the same in every tier till diamond.
This game is dead by design.

One person got to 0 SR and the game looped him to rank 1, with all the benefits of T500.

It got fixed and his stuff reverted.

It’s a shame - I’ve always wanted Overwatch to be fun and engaging, and I’ve been holding on for so long hoping that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel - except that there isn’t one.

Why? You are basicly top500 from below :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: But yea, i would even go so for to only show the bronze icon when you drop below silver.

You never explained how does it “punish” lower ranks

It’s fairly simple: if I’m up to my neck in cheese-comp Elo hell, I would like to at least be able to see my SR. Not knowing what it is or how much I have to win to get out is adding insult to injury - and in a population which is already the worst off in the game due to rank hate and balance issues.

it doesn’t really punish anyone but it looks kind of funny.

Dude you gotta stop playing Support and Tank if you wanna climb out of there.

It used to be like that, but people would race to be “The first to hit 1 sr”…

It ruined lower ranks.

Not true, tanks are the hardest carry role in the game, no matter what people say, it’s true.

off tank? maybe, main tank? Absolutely no way.

Anyway if this was true then why do you only play DPS heroes. Isnt the Tank where the free SR is at?
