Decay above 3000 SR is a frustrating mechanic that should be removed from the game, or at least applied exclusively to the top 500 where slots are actually limited.
I typically place in masters, and I end up playing much less competitive entirely because of decay. Even though I’m an active player, I have a 3yo toddler and a demanding job which means I can’t 100% reliably make the scheduled matches that competitive requires over several months in order to avoid getting hit with huge SR penalties. Putting a ton of effort into playing comp for small SR net gains only to have it completely erased for not playing for a few days is really demoralizing. I’m basically in a pattern now where I do my placements and hit masters just to unlock the golden weapon points, then I park my account and let it decay down to 3000 SR while playing QP with friends instead. That sucks.
What’s the most frustrating is that if I was in a lower skill bracket that was under 3000 SR, then comp would be much more enjoyable since I could freely play on any schedule throughout the season. Why should players in diamond and up be penalized with this decay system? It doesn’t discourage parking or boosting since you still get the end-of-season rewards at the highest rank you hit in the season anyway, and it just penalizes people who have less free time.
Please fix!

That sucks, I also usually can’t play that often with school work and stuff like that
Here’s my vote, keep decay. Helps keep the boosted/carried kids out of ranks they don’t belong unless they want to keep pumping out their allowance money to be there. When I decay I can always get it back ez pz np.
yes. Blizzard wants people playing their game. this mechanic is a way to “reward” good players that play the game often
note that even though your SR decays, your MMR doesn’t which means your matches are still balanced
Decay is a good thing. and this is coming from someone who doesnt play a lot of comp
I support the concept of decay, just not the way it’s implemented. You should be able to build up a little more cushion than just a week max. I play lots of overwatch, but usually in bulk over a day or two before I break off and do other things. This system only rewards people who play consistently, not necessarily less.

no decay is just stupid, if you decay to 3k ur mmr is still masters
I feel like decay should only be GM and top 500.
It’s irritating as heck to maintain ever since I got to diamond. It basically feels like you have to do your chores tonight… aka play some comp so you don’t decay. Doesn’t matter if I want to do it because I NEED to do it thanks to this policy.
who would have thought to stay in the top 14% of all players you would have to actually play the game…
