We’d probably go back to 5 dps, 4dps, no tanks, one support matches… is that what people want?
Why don’t people realize that it takes longer to find matches, but they are balanced?
edit: I realized why. People aren’t looking for extremely balanced-comp like matches, they’re looking for quick matches, and the name doesn’t stand for such.
Having role queue in quick play feels like an overkill, and makes playing any role feel like a chore. Removing it from quick play, but leaving it for comp, would make matchmaking significantly faster, reducing queue-times.
So what if matches are chaotic and disorganized? It’s quick play. It should be like that.
Role queue is killing the fun of the game, and removing it could boost the player base, since queue times wouldn’t be 1000 years long
I don’t think i’m the only one that is extremely exhausted from long dps queue times, and is forced to play tank and support.
Removing hard-enforced role queue is the way to go
Role queue is what makes the game better. It can be 2-2-2 or a balanced version of 1-3-2 idc. But the days of me wanting to play one role and my team forcing me to play another are gone. The devs recognized how toxic that made the game and we are never going back to that.
I’ve really been enjoying QPC lately, as someone willing to flex to tank or support, depending on what is needed. I’ve even switched roles mid-match, which is something you just can’t do in role queue
Not really? Metas might not move as fast as people want but they do move faster now. In the last year we’ve switched between like 3 different metas. Before RQ the same meta would be present for over a year.
And everyone knew this would happen. We get a higher number of quality matches now because teams are more balanced.
Not in my experience. This may be anecdotal but my games are no where near as toxic as before RQ. Simply because people have more fun when they can play the role they want.
We’ve already seen that back in the patch when RQ hit Comp but not QP. It was awful for QP: people would see that the DPS slots were filled, leave, and then have their replacement come, see that the DPS slots were filled, leave…
It was patched out pretty quickly after the backlash.
ill tell you…as someone whos played nothing but QPC since RQ came out…
most games are either 222 or 132…occasionally youll get a 141…and in extremely rare cases youll get a 5 dps game…most of the times the games dont stay whatever way they started…victories are not guaranteed (just like QP)
“ONLY dps players play QPC” is an egregious falsehood thats been repeated so often that people actually believe its true…its OW’s version of the “boogie man”
Most of my games are perfectly fine matches of OW…people switch around all the time to accomodate groups…and if i play with friends its even better…
and of course its worth mentioning…no queue times
honestly for past 8-9 months all ive done is question why people bother with 222 if they hate the queue times…
The reason the meta keeps moving around, though, is because they’re still trying to balance all the heroes, and they still haven’t succeeded. I think the reason certain heroes like Reinhardt and Mei cause metas in the first place is because right now, you’re limited to two characters from each class.
If you can only have two tanks, and you must have two tanks, the tanks are going to take on a certain role on your team, like protection (double shield) or space-making (Rein-Zarya). The logical thing to do then is to pick the tank combination that provides the best of whatever they’re good at. Since Sigma and Orisa are nowhere near as good at protecting their teams as Reinhardt and Zarya are at making space, everybody goes Rein-Zarya, or else gives the enemy a huge advantage (not an automatic win, but definitely an easier one).
If there were no limits, you would have much more freedom to do cheesy things against seemingly well-balanced comps. If the enemy goes Rein-Zarya, maybe go GOATs and ruin their day? If the enemy uses double, or even triple shield (Jeff forbid…) try a whole team of flankers, or flankers + a Pharmercy, or anything else that would be ridiculous and impossible with role lock.
If you do things that way, then roles themselves kind of disappear. Some tanks and supports can be balanced to be more self-sufficient and less team-impactful because now they can actually be run in much more permitting comps. Roadhog would enjoy this, I’d bet.
No matter what, if there are balance issues, there’s going to be a meta, but 2-2-2 is kind of like a forced meta in itself. I think the game would be easier to balance and more fun for a lot of people if players had more freedom with their team comps.
You know why? Because the people who got sick and tired of the bad comps, don’t play the mode. So whoever is left playing QPC. has to actually stop playing stupid to win. You no longer have the people want to play tank in the mode, most of the time.
i dont think this is accurate AT ALL…i see people insta lock tanks all the time…i know from on here that plenty of tanks and supports have expressed that they prefer QPC…and i guarantee you there are plenty of flex players in QPC who dont mind playing them at all (youre speaking to one of them)
and i havent brought it up here yet…but if people REALLY cared about bad comps as much as you say as you say they did…there was already an option for that before blizz split QP like they did…
That won’t stop it happening, and what’s worse is that someone will also be meant to solo-tank or solo-heal. Now, personally, I didn’t mind solo-tanking, as long as I was in the mood for it - but back then Orisa also had stronger barriers, and I don’t play Rein. Other folks view solo-tanking the same way I view solo-healing. It’s going to result in 5v5 matches, because people will constantly leave the loser slot the whole game.
RQ in QP isn’t the problem, IMO. I’ve been doing a bunch of Torbing lately, and I get a game in five minutes minimum, eight minutes maximum. If you want a QP game where you can flex or hop into a game and select DPS immediately, go into QPC. Really, the only issue QPC has now is that it’s in the Arcade, when it should be an option next to the QP card. (Let it still count towards Arcade lootboxes if need be.)
It’s Comp that has the bad queue times, not QP. They should have had Comp Classic next to the RQ options from the start, to try and help bleed off excess DPS players.
