Remove Role Queue, Bring back Open Queue as Main Game Mode

Role Queue was definitely an interesting piece of uncharted territory to explore but I don’t think it should be the main competitive mode anymore and should be removed.

The reason that it was even implemented was due to the fact that Pro League players wanted it that way because they did not approve of the meta that they were creating. This just happened to be Tanks galore and insert brig here.

To me that is a balancing issue. Where it can be solved (The internal kit of the characters, numbers on them, etc) is a separate issue that will still persist regardless. Brigitte’s long list of adjustments is a slight atonement to that, but that’s a separate topic in itself. The stall ball may also be included in this but I’m sure the picture is clear.

Role queue is nice in the fact that it does separate your ranks for each role, but I think it is better for you to be ranked as a “player” instead of “class efficient”. The original point of the game was to be able to swap and adjust to the situation that was presented to your team. The solution was usually created through collaboration of skill sets. Currently the way things are set up now only really forces everyone to learn characters that they don’t perform well in or don’t enjoy playing, so a composition that could work with a different variance of class types is no longer an option due to the limited pool of heroes within that persons class efficiency. If you choose to exclusively play one character anyway then that’s already an issue in itself and also harder to adjust around since you can only choose from your class pool.

Smurfing would also be harder since you would not be able to potentially derank in 3 different areas individually. Different topic as well but I feel it is relevant.

Queue times would go down as too, I’m sure dps focused players would like that.

Instead of role selection, maybe having “declared intent” could be the better way to go. Not set in stone, but having a preferred role to play. Maybe have different queue options for those who don’t mind waiting the extra 5 minutes if they will get a group with the proper intent composition (Granted they basically have a party pick up system already) . At the end of it all it is up to Blizzard’s discretion, but I feel they definitely do give a listen.

Also, no. It wasnt implimented just cause of pro players. Just sayin’ majority of none pro’s also wanted it. So stop with the ridiculous scapegoat flame game.

I hate to break it to you but they wont get rid of 222. And it’s going to be the main focus of the game either you like it or not.

We already have both modes. I will never understand people who want one, and to get rid of the other.

Both already exist! Just play the one you want to play! It doesnt affect you to not play the other one.

It makes no sense to me that people can say “get rid of open queue, I don’t like it” “get rid of role queue, it’s not fun” when you can just click on the mode you want to play.

Playing 4 to 5 instalock trash dps is not adapting the the situation tho.

in my personal opinion, RQ was one of the best things added to the game. OQ was too much of a gamble each and every match, and there was even less role diversity (I’d be forced to almost always play Mercy as the team wanted to go full DPS).

Sure, I had some fun matches with wacky comps, but I’d rather keep RQ and longer queue lines for better quality matches overall and more character choices (as a support main).

Go back in time and convince all those selfish game ruiners to pick a freaking tank and a healer thats not lucio, for god sake. Once every 4 games, atleast

I’m told to switch all the time, I’m never FORCED to switch.

Please note have never been told to switch between rounds only at the beginning of the match.

  1. They literally said they were making RQ BEFORE goats was meta, so it had nothing to do with goats. The comp may have added extra incentive, but RQ was coming anyway
  2. RQ was coming because people had been complaining on having 3 or more DPS in their game since the existence of comp OW. People WANT 2/2/2, even a lot of the dps mains, who would rather wait in RQ than have to deal with OQ.
  3. RQ means they can balance certain heroes around “how will this work with another one of this role” vs “how will this work with 2 or 3 of this other role”.
  4. OQ exists, and has a for a little while now. It’s RIGHT next to RQ comp. It’s still not popular. People don’t take the mode seriously and don’t like it, because it looks so much worse in comparison to RQ. OQ looks fine if you’ve never seen the alternative, and just learn to adapt to “eh, so we’ve had 4 dps games 3 times in a row”. Then NEVER having that again? Why would anyone go back to that, unless they enjoyed the 3+ DPS experience?
