Just thought about it, devs are def planning to remove role lock for overwatch 2. The lack of a revert to anti tank dps buffs and changes to other dps feel like they are going to release the shackles and save the game. Would be pretty happy if they did because role queue is just not good, doesn’t feel like Overwatch as a casual game. The power of 3 dps rn is better against tank so can’t see any sustain comps being created
I enjoy role queue open queue is broken and not balanced
alright whats the best comp for open queue?
Then be casual and play Open Queue or Arcade. They are almost the same anyway, as in, players don’t seem to take neither seriously. You don’t have to play Role Queue.
good job reading the post
there are many, many players - myself included - who prefer the freedom and challenges of role-less queue over the restrictions and stale metas of 222
I can tell you with certainty that I take role-less queue game modes quite seriously, and many others have stated the same in 222-related threads throughout these forums
I know of nothing in role-less queue game modes that could reasonably be described as “broken”
I don’t want to go back to 5 dps and 1 Mercy. I actually haven’t touched open queue and classic QP since they introduced the role lock it’s so organized and you play like a team
you would rather have people playing roles they aren’t good at instead? I am sorry but 3 dps 2 healers 1 tank isn’t bad by any means its actually a very fun and enjoyable comp and you could actually switch to counter a comp as a support and tank.
You can learn to play roles there is no shame about that
most people don’t though, and thats the truth. Role queue killed flex players for all roles because you just didn’t need to do it. You get rewarded for being a support or tank one trick or 2 trick but if you play dps its just much worse
I have only very very rarely seen this composition in role-less queue mode matches.
In fact, I only see 4 or more dps in roughly one match in every twelve in role-less queue matches
the mode where I see the same team compositions over and over again is the one that restricts choice - 222.
given that role-less queue allows for more choices to be made, its only natural one would see more varied team compositions, not limited ones like the one described above
I think nerfing supports and tanks is what made the DPS queue times longer
Source please…
Also if it was removed then balance would be 100 times harder. It’s easier to try to balance around 2-2-2. If we didn’t have that now I’m positive we would still have a 3 tank & 3 support meta.
You assume people will play this way all the time. That’s clearly not the case and why role queue was introduced. Everyone wanted to be dps, and back in the day you’d either have no tank or no healer, until the team started getting rolled. By that time, it was too little too late and the match was lost. I was against role queue when it was first introduced, as I enjoyed flexing, but now I much prefer RQ.
I like that we have a choice between role and open queues. As a tank main for four years since season one, I have no problem filling in open queue, because it was my choice to click on the open queue card knowing full well that most likely there will be at least two players locking DPS and expecting others to fill, and that’s how I became a tank main in the first place. However, in the unlikely scenario where Blizzard does away with role queue altogether, I will never fill again. I will be that mythical player who coolly and deliberately locks the sixth DPS spot and refuses to switch off it no matter what.
Nice bait, but no I assure you they are not. If anything expect a possible return of 1-3-2 believe it or not.
As he said, he just thought about it. Literally, he’s the source. Its not impossible but it would be exceedingly unlikely as it would mean Blizz has literally two entirely different dev/balance paths at work right now, one that has existed for 2-2-2 for the last year while simultaneously balancing and adding or a return of OQ for up to half a dozen new characters. Yeeaahh…
Oh, and I have a bridge to sell you too ![]()
Not gonna happen, I think. The devs wanted to make the team based shooter game… Ya know… More team based.
Also I did not enjoy 5-6 dps.
Ditto. I tried OQ and go into it when I just want to do my own thing and be left alone, and even have done placements in it, and the frequency that some DPS kid starts going “shield” while refusing to swap off Genji or Hanzo is appalling. What is even more humorous is when they make a 2-2-2 comp… and i am like wtf why not just play RQ? Then they get annoyed if they aren’t doing well and everyone just starts swapping destroying their ult charges and it becomes an everyman for himself clownfest. When you say anything about forming a cohesive comp its “we just wanna chill and have fun” or “go to RQ if you want to play hard” kind of statements. These are not the high-minded pro players flexing to every beat to counter as some on here try to make out. No, its a flash mob, little more. Don’t even suggest some high minded “creativity in comps” nonsense, that is a joke outright.
Then you clearly have no idea what goes on in there.
I’ve been enjoying OQ because there has rarely been the 5 dps comp. Most of the time there is the classic 222, except everyone can switch around roles to make things work.
And when there is a 5 dps, they actually work together. I lost maybe two placement games out of 10.
It’s not as bad as it’s made out to be.
Open queue in the past was a dps fiesta where I felt blessed if I was not tanking alone or healing alone which was the case most of the time.
