Remove Private Profiles

Can we please just remove private profiles from the game? It makes it so much easier for smurfs to hide that they’re on an alt account and they’re probably using said account to tilt matchmaking in their favour and boost people. Private profiles just make it so much easier for smurfs to hide their stats, and allows them an easier opportunity to cheat. Even if you wanted to hide some stats (ex. win percentage on heroes), at least make it so that TOTAL PLAYTIME is ALWAYS shown.

Sidenote: I truly believe that people who use alt accounts to boost their friends are cheating, since they are intentionally trying to tilt matchmaking in their favour to gain an advantage, and BOTH the BOOSTER and BOOSTEE should be banned for cheating.

But like why though?

It’s dishonest so why do it
Streamers I understand but Joe from UK no I don’t get that
(Private profiles)

I mean… Let’s say there’s a smurf with a public profile. What does this change? How does this help you prevent smurfs?

This doesn’t help detect smurfs or cheats though…

Most people used Private Profiles because people would flame them for picking certain heroes. I’ve had a game where someone picked Widow and the team was like “Ew, 17% winrate on Widow, get off or you’re throwing.” So for that reason, I’m okay with private profiles hiding SOME stats, but I think Total Playtime should ALWAYS be visible to people, just to make it so much easier to find and report smurfs.

Yeah I get that but like…
I mean technically I only have like 45 hours on Cass, my main, but I held off a diamond player the other day with him,
Am I a Smurf in that regard

If you can see someone’s Total Playtime, you can compare it to their skill level. While some people may just be good at games from the start, there are certain times where you can tell that someone is 100% a smurf just by comparing skill level and total playtime.

Smurff accounts became a thing BECAUSE of Open Profiles.

Father Kaplan Made the choice to make profiles default invisible, because all people did was load into the game and look at EVERYONE’s “most played characters” and stats, and everyone would try and counter swap to what they thought the enemy team was going to play as.

It promoted LAZY gameplay, and caused constant fights in chat, as well as many other problems.

one feature that I appreciate that was changed from “day 1” launch.

Smurf accounts and open profiles have no correlation. There’s not a single person who would make a smurf account due to an open profile. Most people make smurf accounts to 1) play with their friends, 2) practice things in lower ranks that they cannot try in their actual ranks, 3) intentionally use this account to boost people, 4) could be a streamer or someone who uses alt accounts. And like you said, people could look at profiles and try to counter pick, but that is why I said, and I quote, “even if you wanted to hide some stats (ex. win percentage on heroes), at least make it so that TOTAL PLAYTIME is ALWAYS shown.”
