It’s just pointless and wrong;
-Why can’t I see my teammate’s rank,
-Their most played hero,
-How many hours they have on the hero they pick,
-Their win percentage etc. you get what I’m trying to say.
We used to do these stuff before this private profile became a thing. We could say “Oh, you don’t have much experience with Hanzo, it’s better if you play Soldier.” etc. It just helps the team, nothing harmful about it.
Nobody with a brain is going to make fun of you for being bronze. Rank up if you are ashamed of it. Private profile isn’t a solution.
Mercy mains and uncooperative one tricks apparently got harassed, so we all have to be stuck with private profiles because it protects feelings.
The better solution would have been to suggest they mute and report harassers, and group with people who don’t mind one tricks.
Private profiles should have been available from the start so that bad habits like profile spying and hero choice harassment never would’ve formed in the first place.
Maybe some people don’t want to be told by a silver Genji main that Soldier would be a better choice than Hanzo.
As long as nobody pays me for playing games, I don’t allow anyone to tell me how I should play it, for whatsoever reason.
If I have the same rank in competitive, I must have done something right, or wrong, depends on the rank. Maybe you should try another hero and we have both something to gain.
This is literally the reason it became a thing. It is working entirely as intended.
-private profiles is the best change added to this game. ever.
No.
17 characters re
I am neither of those.
- People kept/keep incorrectly reading my profile and labeling me as a one-trick, flamed me, blamed me (even though I wasn’t playing Sombra at any point).
- People kept/keep digging into my statistics to talk smack to me if something goes wrong in the match, simply because SOMEONE has to be to blame except them
- People kept/keep reading my profile: “Level 800+ and still plat LMAO you suck”
Blame the jerks who read the profiles to use it for toxic purposes instead of the people who hide it. Reporting and harassing does not stop it from actually happening in that moment.
My profile is public, btw. Can 100% understand why people hide it. I am often resisting hiding my own. I experienced less toxicity when it was private than when it’s public.
Well it was the other way around though. People weren’t harassed for being one tricks (Unless it was Sym or Torb) - but for playing something else. I used to be a D.va main but we never had a healer so I started picking up a Mercy. So I got some hours in Mercy and spiral begun. Every time I would pick something else then Mercy I would just get yelled at for not playing her. That just made me have even more hours in her as opposed to everyone else and chance of being forced to play her next time have just risen.
It was same for Rein mains etc. You had any hours in a hero that was needed? You would be forced to play it no matter what.
Probably due to the jerks going through harassment withdrawal.
people are getting harassed right now, as I type this, all over the world and in many different languages, for being one tricks. regardless of character involved.
lol probably.
I mean, even now. My profile is public. And people are just stupid and can’t read it lol.
“Kick the Sombra one-trick”
[has played 13 heroes in competitive so far, all with positive winrates, with no Sombra play in competitve]
???
Like, I can only do so much. Sometimes I’d rather just take away the window they have to be toxic. lol.
But… Why?
No one ever gives a legitimate reason to remove it.
In comp, if you’re with someone, more than likely they’re within 200 of your rank.
And if theyve mainly played one or two heroes, they’ll more than likely play those one or two heroes.
Why does it matter?
Never seen anyone harassing Tracer or Soldier one tricks. Never seen anyone harassing Rein OTP unless they tried to play something else. When Mercy was meta, I was either playing Mercy or watch the match get thrown. That is just how it is. Just like in the OP here. “You don’t have a lot of hours in this, don’t play it.” Public profiles were basically a OTP enforcement for a non-dps characters.
I need my safe space that’s why.
I’ve seen it
I’ve read about it
many, many times
I do, actually. You’d rather demand people switch and complain when you can’t see their hours than just play the game. Get over it.
People just need something to be negative about. As I implied with the withdrawal comment, these people are addicted to the way they behave. They get a rush from verbally abusing strangers. Next time it happens, just remember they are a sad and lonely person just trying to connect with others in their own pitiful way.
That’s not on you, that’s on the DEVS for not arranging a better statistical layout for teammates to look at. And jerks are going to be unhappy jerks no matter what, who cares if they call you out for being a one trick, who are they to you really?? Some stuck up wannabe seagull clone who’s been hard stuck in Plat since season 8? Forget them, play who you want, but understand that choice may be a detriment to you and your team so choose wisely.
I’ve run into so many Smurf One Tricks with trolly names by now on console that it doesn’t even phase me, and when someone asks any player about their hours try try to get them to switch they just respond “uh well, this is my alternate account, I really play, etc etc etc…” And then they continue on.
I’ve been through debates as to why someone would want their profile private and that’s completely fine, but being devoid of helpful information to build a team comp isn’t great too. I do wish the devs would have made it an option instead of switching all profiles to private by default though.
Every time one of these threads pops up, I become more convinced that private profiles were the right decision. They pop up so often I’m beginning to think we need to remove the public profile option completely. Private or friends only.
