This system seems pretty good on paper, but in reality it almost exclusively has draw backs.
Besides the worse game quality due to people on tanks/support that have never actually played these roles, I am now FORCED to play roles that bring me absolute zero enjoyment.
Non priority dps queue times are now at least 50% longer than before; I have to wait twice as long in queue than the time I actually get to play a game.
How was the addition of this system rationalized? You force your player base to play roles they don’t want to, and by doing so this system also forces bad match quality upon everyone. I just don’t get it.
Stop trying to force your terrible game design, blizzard, and actually fix the tank role by making it more fun to play.
You are not required to play roles you do not want to play. Understand that the option to only play any one of the three roles is still available. Flex Queue is intended for those willing to switch up their games and the Priority Passes merely reward that positive behavior. However, if you are not comfortable on a specific role, you really should not use Flex Queue.
Can you give us more specifics, I have been testing and my Damage Role Queue times have remained the same (Low Platinum ~4 minutes for Competitive)
I haven’t seen dps over 5 minutes yet. Right now its 2-3-2. Unheard of before this. So far I like the system because despite being a support main, I can enjoy some dps time without waiting 6-9 minutes or to get backfilled into a losing game of paris.
again like he said no one is forcing you, the other roles are dead so you have to wait for support and tanks to finish their games to play since their are so little support and tanks qing in comp.
like my tank qs are like 5 secs cause everyone is qing for dps.
this is true in theory but of course if you put a doggy biscuit on the floor the dog who is gonna come right up and eat that doggie biscuit, no matter if he just ate his whole bowl of dog food
i for one love this feature tho for all the CHAOS it has brought and how its making the forums CRY a RIVER. pls dont take it away no matter how much these guys CRY
Again Damage is always going to be the most impacted role across most ranks and regions. The normal wait times remain high because there are more people in line for the damage role over the other two. Nothing is going to change that.
Obviously there is no one forcing us to play these flex rows.
That isn’t going to stop people from queuing for it and not give a care in the world about the game or players they are in a game with so they can snag passes for faster dps times by throwing a game to make it end faster so they can queue for the role they want.
Blizzard really needs a better yes man to give special green text to smh.
I believe the system in general is working and does have a positive impact… to those who use it. You have the choice, and yes queue times will increase and decrease depending on how much it is being used.
From a queue time waiting perspective - sure. But the people actually trying have to suffer under those just farming passes.
And like I said, Jeff literally said that it was gonna have a positive impact on regular queue times as well, which it does not
Yes, of course I have the choice. But this choice results in what I have written initially.
It forces bad match quality upon everyone and I have to wait longer for my games unless I pick up tank and support, as well.
Of course, I don’t know whats in store for ow2 and if they will actually keep this system, but going down this path was such a destructive decision for the game. I just can’t wrap my head around it.
Like others have said, you are in fact forced to queue flex to get passes else wait even longer in queue than before this new system.
I was watching a GM streamer and before this system DPS queue times were around 8mins. With this new system DPS times have been over 15mins without a pass. Using a pass gets you in within 3-5mins.
So as I stated in other topics, I can now wait LONGER in a DPS queue or I can flex and almost always get tank role, which I HATE playing to earn some passes then play DPS once in a while.
When it comes to competitive mode it’s literally a tossup. You can play 20-30min matches via flex or wait in queue for ~15mins to play a role you really enjoy.
I would also like to say that this system will likely negatively impact specialty OW streamers. The one I love watching plays Junkrat. People watch him because they want to see some high rank Junkrat plays. Sadly the stream is now more tanking than what the person specializes in.
The whole system was a good idea on paper but I feel in the end it won’t help the game any.
It’s also no solution to the problem being that tanks are unrewarding to play. So instead of reworking the unpopular roles, they force bad games on everyone and longer queue times on those that don’t want to take part in this.
Why are the devs clinging to obvious bad game design?
The problem will only get worse as well. As more and more people use priority que… more people will be cutting ahead of those who don’t. Personally I just don’t like the fact you can’t use the passes if the que time isn’t over some threshold, I think it’s 5 minutes.
Meaning it’s utterly worthless most the time in QP, and of no use if you want a faster time for tank or support.
Then why even introduce the fast pass system at all if it doesn’t fix the issue? If everyone uses the fast pass, nobody’s saving time.
On top of it, you have people playing tank/support just to “get some passes quickly” and are actively throwing their matches so they can hurry up and get their passes. I played 2 Role Queue matches to try it out and it was the WORST matches I’ve EVER played in RQ. I’ll stay forever in OQ. At least there I can still have fun.
Even if every tank was rewarding to play I don’t think the queues would be any better. There are a lot of people who just don’t enjoy various roles for their own reasons. I don’t enjoy tanking because it puts me in charge and revolves around me. I don’t like the stress. I will however play support and enjoy doing that from time to time.
Now looking at just the tank heroes, I do hate playing Rein and Orisa the most. They are just boring as dirt for me. I like Hog, WB and a tie with Zarya & Sigma then Winston & D.va are a tie after that.
