You want to buff Sombra’s lethality but invis is holding you back. Seems like a simple change to me. Make her like tracer but with more utility than escape.
She is a crutch pick and in every QP game I ever play.
This dev team is hopeless. They didn’t even address her in the AMA because their ego is too big to admit their mistakes. They even troll us by making a better version of Sombra in mirrorwatch and then removing it.
That would make people even more mad at her.

No. Tracer is meant to be played like Tracer and Sombra is meant to be played like Sombra. The solution is quite the opposite. Stop making her like freaking Tracer. If we wanted that, we would pick Tracer!
Tracer is nowhere near as annoying as sombra. she has to actually aim. Sombra has no aim abilities that offer way too much value.
I do not disagree with any of that. I am just saying that to fix Sombra, you need to address Sombra. Not make some generic knock off.

No it wouldn’t. A higher ttk, but invis on a timer (you’re invis for 10 seconds max, for example) means good sombras would do well, and bad sombras couldn’t hide behind the ‘get out for free’ that perma invis is.

Stealth mechanics in any PvP is always impossible to balance. Give any sort of way to counter stealth and the people who play stealth get upset since they are no longer 100% immune from interacting with the other players in the match.
Yeah I was extremely perplexed by that Reddit AMA response. It truly seemed like a very obvious fix. “I can’t get out of my car because it’s locked” …like, have you tried unlocking it? Have you tried reverting permanent stealth? Seems like you had an Experimental Mode the community seemed to LOVE that you also refuse to use. Pathetic.
Real talk though I know Sombra players that think perma-stealth is dumb. It’s not an MMO it’s a FPS. Perma-stealth only causes issues, whereas a more powerful yet tactical stealth you need to use on cooldown (like her original design) solves a lot of issues the casual community has with this crap character. If even the devs are complaining this part of her kit causes issues… what’s the issue?! Stop shooting yourself in the foot and saying you’re in pain.
The problem is there is already a mismatch between what Sombra sees and what the target sees.
Now the target would see her still appear out of nowhere as they do now, but NOW they die even faster to her when she does.
People would not love that.
Because it is. (I’m a Sombra player) - the issue isn’t removing perma-stealth, it is putting that power into making her more deadly.
You got to put it somewhere else until you want your player base totally melting down.
Would it be fun as hell as the Sombra player to put it into deadliness, sure would be, but everyone else will hate it more. For the reason I put above.
The targets of your attack don’t see the extra skill in setup, all they see is Sombra appears and they get EVEN LESS time to react.
It would make her feel even more unfair than she is now, and they would be even more angry.
They need to make her into a support like the mirror watch version. An invisible assassin is too annoying.
Good teams just heal through a sombra dive, now they can actually punish her, because she came out of invis to take the fight. That means they can actually chase her and not have her cheese away and hide.
People liked playing into sombra a lot more back when she didn’t have perma-invis. It would also add skill too. Right now sombra isn’t exactly a high skill hero.

Second, they tried cd-based invis before, and it promoted a very passive playstyle where Sombra could only do things on certain parts of certain maps. Perma invis is annoying, but blame the lack of spy checking power. I saw someone suggest that Sombra have a larger decloak hitbox surrounding her when she’s cloaked, so she’s easier to decloak.
That was because her power wasn’t being all dumped into her weapon.
Given the amount of power you would have to push into her weapon, they wouldn’t have time to do so.
Her win rate strongly suggests otherwise. You may feel like she isn’t skilled, but it isn’t like people are doing well on her.
She takes more skill than say… pretty much every other hero in the game to win games with.
Agreed, I liked that version.
But I fear if she got reworked into that, Ball would run roughshod over our games, and I am inclined to believe that even fewer people want that.
That is a concern. However I feel a good ball isn’t bothered that much by Sombra. She’s annoying but not a hard counter really.
Ball could be rebalanced if that was the case.
I’m pretty happy with Support Sombra, I’d do it differently than the mirror watch version, but Support Sombra is something I would play.
