Remove OW1 ranks from Career Profile, please

Not fun being flamed by your team when you ended 2900 SR and are now in GM.
Removing OW1 ranks will reduce toxicity across the whole game.
Not many downsides that I can think of.
Rank inflation IS a thing, but when I’m 200 games deep into GM with a 50/50 W:L, I think I’m alright staying up there.

Honestly, I would actually prefer to see more information. I want to see what everyone’s rank is in my lobby, just by pushing tab. I want to see what everyone’s MMR is, and why some players that play worse than bronze 5 are in a diamond lobby. The game needs to be more transparent, not less.

Your W/L in GM honestly means nothing. All that matters is if you are performing or not. If you are the worst-performing player in most of your lobbies, perhaps you should be lower. If you carry, you should be higher. The pathetic excuse of a matchmaking system we have in this game is not going to consistently push you in the proper direction though.

Your win percentage out of your top played characters reveals a few insights. You seem to play very well on dps in the diamond ranks, decent weapon accuracy and strong win rate on Cass. On support the 54% win rate on Zen is respectable. The 26% win rate on Kiriko, and relatively low weapon accuracy, is where I’m guessing you are getting flamed if I had to take a guess. Seems wild that the elims per life on Zen are so much higher than on Kiriko, when you should be dying far less often on Kiriko.

That’s just my guess though, I can’t know more without actually playing with you. But if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say you were being flamed because of your performance on Kiriko more than anything, not because of what your rank was back in OW1.

This is anything but the reason. An example from today’s game is when I was playing Ana, and I don’t feel like I’m playing too bad. Certainly could be better, but I ask my team what I can do more. After that, I start getting flamed and the Mercy starts flaming like “you’re a plat in GM, shut up.” Not fun, and by removing OW1 stats from the game, we’ll end up with a less toxic community.

I’m also not asking for less information as a whole, I’m asking for the removal of irrelevant information that will reduce toxicity. OW1 is a completely different game from OW2, and we’re a year into OW2. Shouldn’t be surprised to see a player improve his rank after a year.

To be fair, everyone in GM was plat at one point. My personal view is someone that has put in the reps and consistently played since early OW1 is going to have much better game sense than someone that just picked up the game yesterday.

I truly believe that the cause of most of the toxicity is just bad matchmaking and human behavior. I can see it from your perspective though, where your performance improved significantly over the past year, and people have the mindset that you didn’t earn GM even if you did.

Can’t you just private your profile?

Toxicity is toxicity. At one point you were plat, so what? You climbed to GM. They will have to deal with it.

Im sure they will go away in a couple seasons. Best I can tell it shows like 5 last seasons or something. All my ow 1 comp stats from ow1 season 4 to to current are gone. I didn’t play comp for a few last seasons in ow1 so have nothing to show. I was 3990 and got placed Diamond 5 in ow2 s1 due to rank decay so it works both ways. My 3990 showed up ow 2 season 1 then disappeared as it was liken6 seasons ago. I’d like my old stats back. Im finally back to GM but took 3.5 seasons.

I vote for keeping all record of rank from Ow1 season 1, maybe with an option to hide previous season stats only and keep current ?

I disagree, Blizzard gave you the option to hide your career profile already so your problem is a non issue in my eyes. My first season of ranked I ended at 700 SR bronze and I’m actually proud of that even though at this point I can do OK in master lobbies and a peak high diamond.

I’ve never been flamed for my profile in a serious way… Sure its happened but why would you take it seriously? For me that was like 6 years ago now and this was my very first FPS/shooter game ever lol.

I wish they would expand player profiles to be customizable and show MORE information… I also wish the players viewing your profile could customize their own settings to highlight information they care to see quickly.

I hate to say it, and I’m sure plenty of people will hate to read it, but… it’s worth privating your profile simply so your teammates waste less of the match time combing over it.

Too many players focus too much on everyone but themselves.

I’m not saying public profiles aren’t useful, but for me, the pros don’t outweigh the cons.

Meanwhile I miss all my competitive history going back to OW1 season 8. I liked seeing the progress I’ve made over the years. It’s a little weird how they handled it.

You may or may not belong in GM, who knows. But fact is, a lot of players got boosted in earlier seasons of OW2, which is the main contributor to low quality matches.

One way to lower Q times for high ranked players, is to make more people high ranked.

In the end, non of it matter anyway. It’s just a rank in a videogame. Gamers have fragile egos, so we have to blame each other for our shortcomings.

No you’re not. Master is the old Platinum, GM is a mix of Diamond, Master and GM players.

You being GM means that your rank is inflated and because it’s the same for many other players, you can win games in a rank you’re not supposed to be (or the others).

Don’t you have the occasional game that you get so hard stomped by a single player or 2-3 players in the game that you can do nothing about it? Those players are actual GM players and not inflated. See the difference in skill level there?

This is intentional by Blizzard in order to sugarcoat players into playing more, they feel like they’re progressing, but unfortunately this happens by ruining ranked games in general.

The ONLY way to balance this system is to add like 2-3 more ranks, for example:
Iron, Metal, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, Epic, Top500
Only then would the ranks actually have meaning.

I’d rather have my older ranks from OW 1 when the game was fun and the SR system actually looked like it made sense. Where I won 5 in a row and increased, not decreased/stayed the same.

It would literally do nothing

source: me, a player who has played since day one (I even own the Noire Widow skin for pre-ordering) and have seen over the many seasons that no matter what Blizz does with this game to reduce toxicity, players will find another thing to be just as, or even more, toxic about.
