I’m constantly grouped with players that clearly have no idea what they are doing with the class. Some of them even say something like “I’m only here for the Lootbox. Yolo.”
This is really anoying. Find something else to reward players in the spots that needs players!
so you’re mad about people actually trying new roles and in the long run lowering dps queue times
not to mention before role lock those same people were probably even higher ranked
it wouldn’t hurt though if you only got those boxes when winning
Nothing like waiting 10 minutes to lose because someone wanted a loot box
I am not mad a ppl trying new roles. It is ok for me if they do what they can and actually play on the SR they are in… but there is a large number of players just slagging around… you just get the Lootbox to easy. Winning, loosing, even if the games stops bcs someone left early.
Also I don’t think that the dps queue times are decresed with this. Player that wants to play Tank will still play Tank when there is no Reward. Same for Healers. e.g. I don’t like playing DMG because I am not good at it. Ppl who don’t like the tank/supp game style won’t rethink this, but grabbing the Lootbox is ok. Result of this system is that DPS get grouped with a “Lootbox” Tank and have to w8 double and its getting harder to keep your SR.
This system reminds me of WoW LFG and LFR System… just imagine a system where you join the Raid as Tank, get your reward and then insta leave… this is what happens in OVerwatch.
A random player have, eg, platinum DPS SR. They placed in silver for tank.
They know silver is a slogfest and that to climb as tank they would have to work triple and still rely on the other silver players to cover their back.
When the game offer them a lootbox to play tank, they instead take it as a match where they can dooze off and not worry at all about winning, because “that rank is trash” and “I only care about my highest SR role anyway”.
That was one of my (many) complaints about role queue. Blizzard basically gave everyone one or two roles where they can play without trying that hard to win, because they simply don’t care about whatever happens to that role SR.
Players who do care about having a good pool in all three roles are the ones shafted harder by role queue because they developed a flex playstyle that basically cut their hero pool by 66% when they role queue.
Myself, I would condition that lootbox to the win. Like a mini-challenge: “queue as tank, win the match, and get a lootbox”. Maybe let the credits there as an incentive to play, but the rare lootbox offering is linked to the win.
bro this ain’t about that, its ppl just coming for their free daily lootbox and afking for all they care since u get lootbox even if u lose.
You’ll still complain either way:
Loot Box - Someone might give it a go. Reduces wait time.
No Loot Box - They don’t and the queue times for your match stay higher because people aren’t queuing for Tank or Support.
i’m inclined to agree with this, tbh. and i play exclusively support. it really has no place in competitive matches. people dont care about their rank for those roles and only queue it for the extra rewards. its unfair to the rest of their team.
Exactly what I am thinking. Players will pick what they seriously want to play. A “I am only here for the Lootbox” Player is nearly always less experienced then the rest of the team. It should be removed OR put on WIN only
Do you really have such little impact on your matches that you feel you can’t contribute to the win?
Surely it is almost the exact same scenario for your counterpart on the enemy team.
What are they doing right that you are not?
Pretty sure these people will be placed in a very low rank when s18 hits up
I’m fine with loot boxes being offered as an incentive, but at the very least it needs to be that you have to win a game in order to get the loot box.
As it stands, there are too many queuing as tank and support and then throwing just to get the loot box.
I see just as many throwers on DPS so I’m not really convinced it’s a loot box issue.
i play tank for the loot box and the credit but also to have fun. which is why i moved from playing comp to QP .
I can’t imagine being so desperate for cosmetics in a video game that I’d spend 15+ mins for 4 chances at thousands of items, most of which I probably wouldn’t even want.
I think people overestimate the value of a loot box.
To anyone playing this game for any length of time, they aren’t jumping roles just for some vanity random loot box. Shown by DPS easily still being the longest queue time.
If anything, it proves nearly nobody jumps roles for a loot box ever and that tanks are just so uninteresting to people (and support by comparison) even though Blizzard tried to bribe them.
Or, you can live in the real world where you get people on your team who literally say “i dont tank i’m just doing this for the loot box”. Nice fantasy you got there.
The Lootbox incentive for the Tank RQ is more harmful to a team that needs a decent tank, because most that queue to get a free loot box after 10 -15 minutes of play versus 1 hour or more of 3-5 matches to level up and get one, ends up throwing a match because they either dont care because you dont have to win the match to get it, or lack the skill to play a tank even if they gave it their full effort. Not everyone can play tank. There are healers that suck at tanking roles. Tanks that suck at DPS roles, DPS that suck as healer roles.
You dont go through Drivers Ed to get your license with the instructors giving you a participation trophy and a free pass on the highway by yourself without proper experience. You’ve got some that think in their head and pull a Chip Chapplie and say “I Think I Got This!” then take the wheel and end up all over the place and bam, your team is in the gutter wondering how they are functioning.
That’s an absolutely stupid comeback. Just because one person says it, means everybody does?
Read. I said nearly nobody. You have one person and you think, what, that the queue times for tanks are short by comparison because of loot box craze? You’ve got a poor, sad excuse to stand on if that’s the case.
I didn’t even think that one lootbox was enough incentive. I’ve already unlocked pretty much everything (barring a few items from the most recent couple of seasonal events that I wasn’t interested in).
