Remove lifeweaver's pull

95% or more have no idea how to use it, and just end up either helping the enemy team or toxicly abusing it. At least give us an option to opt out of it, so we toggle the option on or off. Being forced to be controlled by a teammate is more threatening than an enemy Fika’s Ult.

How are those 95% of players supposed to learn how to use it correctly without breaking a few eggs? You’ll be okay.

Yeah, problem with this is already visible with Cat.

People die because they don’t notice the prompt or they’re stubborn toddlers and refuse it, so this will be a massive nerf to Weaver.

So no.

I see the pull in lifegrip being used to grief one’s teammates frequently and regularly, at all levels of play

I agree that the pull needs to be removed, and this would not require a rework

No you don’t.

Replays or lying

Yes this would objectively require a rework

You are essentially arguing the sky is purple

Yes. Remove lifegrip or at least allow us to consent or not.

u can cancel it with every movement ability for years now btw

sounds more like you have no idea about positioning, if this happens to you so often.

Adding consent would be a step in the right direction, but I think removal of the pull would be even better.

neither would require a rework

Adding consent would remove last second saves. I literally wait until someone is about to fall over before I yank them out. With damage creep and burst as high as it is now, i’d have to prompt you at 50% to give you time to react and pray you realize you’re gonna get nuked. It’d go like this:

Me: oh crap, RANDOMTANK is about to facecheck a bastion in turret mode that he doesn’t see while purple, better press grip

RANDOMTANK: Ugh another stupid weaver player, i’m at 50% you dummy, let me play, bud. Request denied.

Exactly half a second later

RANDOMTANK: (INSTANTLY DIES FASTER THAN A GRIP REQUEST PROMPT CAN DISPLAY)

RANDOMTANK: Lifeweaver’s useless what do you even do, switch already.

Me: .

The consent could be set as a player setting, defaulting to accept the grip

in this way, those who wish to be pulled will be pulled instantly, same as it is now, while those who do not wish to be pulled wont be pulled at all

I get that there are players who believe every pull saves a life, but this simply isnt the case.

and again, no rework required

Which will still kill those without the setting.

Once again, the sky is not purple and the Earth is not flat.

I could see that being helpful in a match where the LW was new and did more harm than good consistently. In the long term I think it would be bad not because the setting exists but because of player apathy. This is what I see happening if that were available:

  • People who hate grip just because it’s grip and want to die will keep it forced off no matter what.
  • People who have one bad experience will turn it off and are much less likely to turn it back on again because they just can’t be bothered.
  • Lower ranks are more likely to turn this off because that’s where the bulk of the inexperienced learners are. Weaver is currently tuned towards lower rank play and grip is a major part of his kit. They already took cleanse out, so having grip that can’t even be used would be another blow to an already weak hero.
  • Players are lazy and won’t want to evaluate whether or not they want to turn grip on or off every time they join a match so it’ll likely either stay on or off.

I think the best solution would be one to where you could just block a specific player from being able to grip you, almost like a grip-deny list. It’s weirdly specific though. The other less intrusive option would be a prompt during character select that allows you to choose your grip preference with the default being on. If you don’t make a choice then it keeps the setting for the given round but allows a player to change their preference at any time during the match when they are in spawn.

I still think that people would probably just toggle it off though without even seeing if the person is good and LW would get even less play time overall as a hero.

For sure. Personally I think my grips are good about 70% of the time. It’s harder than it looks. More often then not someone will accidentally jump in your LoS at the last second and you grip them instead of the person exploding and that’s unfortunate.

My idea for it was to have an option for it in the settings to toggle it, but to also have a quicktoggle with a small HUD element to show whether or not it is on.

So if you have it off but notice Lifeweaver tried to save you at a good time and you missed it, you could just toggle it on for just that match. Same thing vice-versa.

little side question, how does he learn then?

there is, its called using a movement ability

Presumably in the next matches to come unless he continues to perform poor enough to where people turn it off. I still think people will just toggle it off just because it’s available though. Best to leave it where it’s at like it is now.

Yes, but given a choice some people would rather keep that available than have to burn it just to deny a bad pull, and not everyone has a movement ability.
