Ok, so this was never a problem before 2-2-2, but being called a ‘Trash silver border because you’re a gold dps’ is very disheartening.
Before 2-2-2 I was had to play mostly healer or tank, as dps were almost always insta picked, so I got to play it maybe once or twice a season.
Now with 2-2-2, I can play dps without problem (well unless you count the long wait, but that’s another matter), but almost every game I’ve played there’s been some toxic person or another who complains about something. Dps not doing their job, healers not healing them, tanks not going in, etc.
However the point of this thread is the level borders, and toxic people using that as a focus point on ‘why x is bad’ or ‘why x should just not play the game’ etc.
Not everyone got their levels by playing 600 hours of Genji.
So I believe that the removal of levels borders, at least during competitive, would maybe make things a little less toxic? We already have the option to make our profile private, so why not our levels?
People will find reasons to be toxic. But we should be able to opt out of it. Why a lot of people are private profiles.
Sometimes wish I could hide my own SR from myself. Feel I might play better.
i’m right now hard stuck diamond but i am proud of my silver boarder i dont care if anyone makes fun of me being in diamond and having a high level account.
The game’s been out for over 3 years. If people are making fun of a Silver border, they have mental issues lol. I have a Diamond border and I’m in plat. Insults get an immediate block, ignore, and report. That’s all you can do, since Blizzard clearly doesn’t thinking Border shaming is a thing.
Toxic people will always be toxic.
I have plat border and are gold/plat on this account.
But last time i got mad at a toxic player(before i could mute him) was on a low level alt account. He was insulting the healers (especially the woman/girl?) because he thought he got to less heals… I got very good healing on tank, so healing was good. He was trying to do 1 vs 6 on a dps hero and got killed all the time. So he started to yell at our healers and become really toxic.
So instead of muting him and report him later (like i should have) I started to defend her. Telling him he should stop suiciding with his 1vs6 and play with the team instead…
Instead of shutting up he started to insult me, making fun of my dutch (very bad) accent.
So they will always find stuff to attack you with.
Just mute them as soon as possible and report them after the game. Dont argue with them, or even tell them you going to mute and report them. And forgot about it and dont let it bother you. Just keep on shot calling etc.
I even do mute some people before the game even starts.
When we are still in the spawn and i notice people(kids and usually young adults) who will use voice only to fool around and to show their friends how cool/funny they are, i will mute them too. Since those will be mostly also the ones to become toxic and will only cloud the voice channel and dont give good shot calls/useful info and will distract your game play.
People like you are so weak…
Why do you care about what people tell you on a vidéo game ??
Hell no. One big part of OW for me is leveling and enjoying pretty borders. I would quit if borders were removed.
You can just ignore people with
colored borders
Just turn off all comms. It’s the only way the game is enjoyable.
Ive been at silver/gold rank for 19 seasons.
This has been happening since season 8ish.
Just ignore & move on.
Mute if necessary.
the problem is is that the whole reason private profiles is a thing is because of people going into your profile and shaming you. So let me get this straight shaming the profile was enough to get dev attention but shaming the level and noone cares?? wtf
How do people gain so many levels in this game? I don’t even have a silver border with all my accounts combined and I played since season 3.
im hoping they add a feature where you can choose whatever level border you got to, maybe in ow2?
Funny that most of the people that are this toxic don’t have the balls to stick with their original account and smurf to death
I have a Diamond border and often get harassed for being Diamond border in Gold/Platinum.
But I don’t care what those childish, toxic people think. I like my Diamond border. I think it looks awesome and I’d hate to lose it.
I still don’t think profiles should be private by default. Sure players can switch if they want to, but imo they should be set to public by default.
If you have problems with your profile like being mercy/ball OTP - make it private. If not, let it be public.
About level borders - I’m silver border with almost 2 stars and I’m plat trash dps. Why? I spent more time practicing tanks and supp where I have low diamond. I haven’t seen people having problem with silver borders, more i have seen people making laugh at people in plat/diamond borders in ranks like bronze-gold
I am against it, i want to see levels.
yeah i like my border which is gold. I want to reach diamond border which is one of my goals for overwatch get diamond border also try to peak GM
Thats because u are on the 10% of the whole player base go silver and talk later that said YES I want to see the borders ( I have 5 accounts )
When I play on my main and I see a 25XP player as DPS and Im supporting I play ZEN as I know he is either a rookie or an alt acc and we will not have damage …
And vice versa of course for all roles
My friend has gotten insulted because he’s a silver border in masters. Like where tf is he supposed to be then? Everyone’s supposed to hit top500 the moment they get a silver border or they’re trash?
This game has different ranks for a reason. Some people will literally never go even near GM/T500, and that’s fine. Some people don’t care about their rank enough, and some people just don’t have the mechanical skill/gamesense, or a good PC. There are many reasons.
Should be a toggle feature. Let the individual player decide if they want their border shown or add custom cosmetic borders that can be rewarded from lootboxes and events that dont show levels like the ones Diablo III has done for events and season.
