Remove hardcountering

Hard counters are probably the root of almost every bad experience in the game. When your opponent can delete you by picking the scissors to your paper without having any better mechanics, gamesense, coordination or literally any skill, it feels awful. Having some heroes have 2 counters while others have 20 counters feels awful. Feeling at the mercy of your team’s hero selections feels awful. Everything just awful.

Counters should mean that, for two players of the same skill level, picking the counter should give you a 60/40 edge. Right now for many matchups it’s something like 90/10 and that’s just bad design.

They’ve said before that they wanted to move away from this kind of design but I’m not seeing it. Hopefully at least OW2 is the way to realize it.

I really like hardcounters. I like when the hero I’m playing is clearly worse than the enemy’s and I need to switch, then the enemy switches (sometimes)… Maybe I like it because I mainly play Mei :stuck_out_tongue:

I expect a rework for Pharah and tweaks for Echo in OW2. There will be one less counter pick to fliers. The only viable close range heroes will be ones with tons of burst to win the ground fight making the fliers useless as they regroup with their team.

I’m tired of rock paper scissors balance as well, imo every hero should be competitive with each other and picked mostly for each player’s own playstyle.

Brig is a rock paper scissor hero, so was Sigma 1.0 as he deleted DVA out the game. Bap is just too good and outcompetes the other supports way too easily. He needs a big ult charge nerf or window gets its size buff reverted.

Window has it all: Zoning, burst, and defense. It is way too cheap for everything it does.

I was watching Samito rage at his teammates for not picking the “right” heroes and handing the enemy team the game, and it occurs to me that Arcadium’s overall sentiment is correct, but I’m not sure if it’s at all possible to implement in a game like this. The Devs have been working towards that direction for years now, however, and 2 seems to be oriented that way as well.

i think your playing the wrong game if you dont like hard counters. in fact i think the game was advertised that your suppose to play multiple heroes if you encounter a hero that is giving you trouble

Some people with just complain about every unique aspect of this game. Like going to order a pizza, but ask for no sauce, or cheese.

ITT: people who don’t understand the difference between counters (objectively good design) and hardcounters (objectively bad design). Not worth replying to individuals, mudwrestling with pigs and all that
