Remove all forms of communication within Overwatch for solo queue

Team chat, match chat, take it all away. It is not being used for its intended purpose and is what I believe to be the root cause of all toxicity in Overwatch. Team chat should only be made available to enter into when you’ve formed your own party with those players only.

And before you tell me ‘you can just turn it off for yourself?’ I do, every game. That still doesn’t dispel the belief in others that I’m ‘throwing’ by choosing to not join team chat to hear callouts and what not. ‘Well join and just mute everyone’ then whenever someone tells me to do something and I don’t because I can’t hear them, I’m ignoring them = ‘throwing’ (their words)

By disabling communications in Overwatch with other players in solo queue, players would be forced to fend for themselves, to listen for the audio cues of approaching flankers, enemy abilities used, etc. Furthermore, by disabling communications for solo queue, it might actually give incentive for people to QUEUE UP TOGETHER and play this game how it was originally intended to be played.

And lastly, perhaps most importantly, players might be forced to look inwards at themselves and what they can do differently to win, instead of throwing hollow accusations around and pinning the loss on one or two other players.

I think voice chat is beneficial in a game as strategy stringent as Overwatch, but let’s face it. There are few if any talks to be had about strategizing with others in Overwatch, or discussing plans or methods of attack. It’s mostly used as an outlet to convey your frustrations with other players.

You can do this yourself, at least on PC if you don’t like it.

Clearly you didn’t read the post

I did and don’t agree with it.

Don’t like the chat? disable it.
Want to group up? then do that.
Don’t remove a part of the game and use it as leverage to FORCE people to group up.

Thank you for your contribution.

Some people don’t group for a reason. When I join groups I get perform anxiety, I feel way to pressured to perform, and then I just can’t do anything. I never group because I just hate to feel that way.

I agree. Though, I find it funny that you are saying this. And by “you”, i mean a 222/Role Lock supporter.

I say that, because the “I want 222, so lets force everyone to play 222” was kind of what Role Lock supporters were advocating for, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

So, for one of those people to be against forcing something else, I find mildly humorous. Haha.

I’m not a supporter nor am I against it. Not sure where you got me being a supporter from.

Also in the early days when people started to bring it up I was against it.

Match chat should be off by default during a match. I can’t remember the last time I was pleased to have it on. It could even turn on post game so people could say gg but all it does is encourage people to be toxic and get the enemy team in on it.

Yeah, I remember.

From some of your comments, on anti-222 threads. But, perhaps, I just misinterpreted what you were saying. Which happens. And, if thats the case, well then its my bad.

(For the record, I have no issue with you. I rather think you’re pretty cool dude. I just thought the whole situation was rather humorous, assuming you were a supporter of role lock. Haha)

I’m more on the line with waiting to see what happens with balance.

Definitely a bad idea. You can’t just force people to not listen to comms and completely discourage communicating and teamwork.

Do it yourself. You can hide match and team chats, and leave voice chat if you want.

Okay. That’s fair. I am interested to see that, myself.

(Also, im not trying to de-rail the thread here. I meant my comment to, originally, be a "one and done thing. Haha)

More back to the original topic, I do agree with you. If you have an issue with voice chat, then just don’t join or engage with toxic people. And, if somebody does say something inappropriate, that’s when you report them for abusive chat. All in all, I feel we have the proper tools at our disposal and there’s no reason to get rid of voice chat, as a whole

If you’re leaving all chats and making it impossible for your team to communicate with you, you kind of are throwing to a degree. It’s not as bad as feeding or just suiciding non stop, but in a team game where coordination and cooperation are necessary, making it impossible to do so is throwing.

Sometimes it is not worth it to have to listen to how brutal or vicious some people can be just because their ego got hurt because you couldn’t play up to their standards.

I never said it was impossible, there very much is a way to do it. And I’ve stated how to do it. It’s not throwing in the slightest. I join chat quite often with people I’ve come to know and trust and we do just fine together. And I’ve also done just fine without comms in OW

This was about Symmetra back in the days people would flame you on sight from the select hero screen, but it works for pretty much anyone that want peace of mind while playing.

The chat setting stay saved until you turn the client off.

I ctrl+shft+C every time I go into game, I have no issues doing so. The issue arises when others assume I’m ‘throwing’ for not being in chat, or when others ask me to join voice chat. Honestly I’m getting tired of being asked this, as I suffer from anxiety, and it’s not like I don’t want to be a team player, I switch when things aren’t working, I just don’t want to be that guy who gets berated for making a mistake or saying something wrong that leads us to losing the match
