Remember when skins had bios?

Whatever happened to those? The little flavor text for a skin was fun to read. Why did they stop doing those? Now it’s just “Sometimes available in shop” or “Contained in a previous season’s Battlepass.”

It doesn’t even take long to write and it let’s me have fun imagining the parallel universe where these skin sets exist in/where in the lore the skin exists.

I’d like them to add some flavor texts for some of the newer skins, yeah.

I think it would also be wise of them to take a page from Fortnite and include: “Part of the ______ set”, to help people figure out what collection the skin might go with.

It gets complicated because even if skins are from the same battle pass, they can be from different sets. Season 10 in particular had a lot going on, because it had the Mirrorwatch stuff, but then also envisioned some characters as being Junkers, and Bastion as being part of the Gwishin that D.Va’s MEKA team battles. …But I’m not entirely sure if those are a part of the Mirrorwatch set. And some skins probably just don’t have a set.

remember when skins fit the personality of the character? remember when skins used elements from the lore? remember when skins were actually canon in the lore? the best skins in the game are the canon skins without flashy effects aviator pharah, doctor mercy, archives tracer, bastion abandoned > any mythic

Back at it with the “I know this fact, because it’s true to me”, I see.
How very unusual of you.

I agree with you 100% but this community now only love the mythics skins or just some bikinis or cute things that cost 20 dollar or 10 ( the new summer skins cost 20 dollar )

you want me to put a legal disclaimer at the end of every thing i post?

i like this skin

  • the therm “i like this skin” is a subjetive personal opinion that not necessarily reflects the majority of the playerbase

well there could be canon bikini skins, the point is that reflect the personality of the characters, i dont want reaper doing a stupid dance, his ow1 dance emote wasnt really a dance

What stupid dance? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I remember when legendary skins would have voice line changes and special sounds.

“Experience oblivion” for Zen when he ults while wearing the cultist skin, for example.

I got Witch Kiriko in a loot box and now I have it nearly perma-quipped because the voice lines are just refreshing.

I think people had to beg for voice line changes because some of the skins didn’t match the voice lines they were saying. I miss the flavor texts, though… I think they stopped because it wasn’t putting a damper on the volume of skins they could output

Yeah, gotta free up all that skin design time for the 30th Kiri/Mercy skin in a row.

If you go to the hero gallery and filter it to unowned, there’s a new “Dance-off” emote for Reaper that’s… beyond ridiculous, to say the least.

I remember when new heroes hit the ground with multiple legendary skins you could buy with regular currency
Such times are lost now

Because it takes effort. Why bother wasting time on something 99% of the playerbase won’t even notice?

Some skins has a tiny tidbit of flavor text attached to them when you view then in hero gallery like Witch Kiriko: “The witch named Kiriko specializes in divination, a rare skill seen as a gift by some… and a curse by others. Her visions always lead her to where she’s needed most.” It’s not really a lore skin as it’s ofc not canon to the OW universe unless they make a giant multiverse which ain’t happening obviously. But it’s a thing that makes gives skins a little more “character” one could say as I see it. It doesn’t need to be long, like Kiriko’s I quoted above only being a few sentences. Or some skins getting new voice lines attached to them outside the mythic skins like Katalin mentioned with the Zen cultist skin.

Skins back then:

Cassidy Sherlock skin: “My mind,” he said, “rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere.” :smoking: :male_detective: :mag:

Skins today:

Cassidy Invisible Man skin: Available in the Battle Pass :skull: :skull: :skull:

They do that with plenty of other things in the game that 99% of players don’t notice either. Small details in skin textures, small details in animations, small details on maps. If they have time to waste on that, they have the time to make small blurbs that are barely a paragraph long.

Agreed. Give Kiri flavored skins.
