We all were excited and couldn’t wait for him and he was actually good and he was a DPS instead of a tank.
I mean a lot of people hated DF as a DPS also lmao. He was (and is) difficult to balance around and is full of bugs. He just has a core design that does not fit well into the game as a tank OR a DPS.
I remember it other way around
He was a first hero in this game i hated, no dislike, hate.
He was even part of the reason why person i played the most with at the time left overwatch
I will never be fine with this character, and i saw him A TON in all modes. This game wanted me to hate it i tell ya.
Doomfist needs reworked back to the damage role; having completely selfish tank designs doesn’t have a place in Overwatch, especially because it’s 5v5 now. It is obvious that Doomfist works better as a damage hero since current Doomfist does about as much tanking as Genji (a DPS) does for his team, but how Doomfist was in OW1 wouldn’t work, especially for Blizzard’s theme of reducing CC for OW2. I also would reduce his single-target burst damage in favor of more AOE damage and damage over time.
How to Design Doomfist for Damage Role in OW2
Doomfist
- Moved from Tank to Damage Role
- Base health reduced from 525 to 300
Power Block
- Ability Removed
NEW! Rising Uppercut
- OW1 Rising Uppercut Added
- Reduce upwards travel and knock-up of Uppercut
Seismic Slam
- Now propels Doomfist forward a set speed and distance upon landing, and holding the jump key as he lands further propels you forward.
- Now also allows for targeting ground that is at least a certain angle below your hero while mid-air to travel downward (damage ramping from OW1 would stay gone, and Doomfist keeps the OW2 verticality to his Slam)
Rocket Punch
- No longer stuns
- Wall impact damage removed
- Knock-back reduced
- Impact damage buffed
- Rocket Punch now also deals minor impact damage to nearby enemies and knocks them back less than the primary target
- Charge up time buffed
Meteor Strike
- Slow on enemies removed
- Health regeneration reduced
- Cooldown acceleration reduced
- Health and cooldown benefits are better the first half of the duration, and are weaker for the last half of the duration
- Ultimate cost reduced (buffed)
- Outer-ring damage buffed
I’m not giving concrete numbers for his abilities because it would require play-testing to find a good spot numbers-wise.
I’m told every Tank is trying to emulate Doom’s playstyle though, even the team’s favorite Reinhardt.
So in a sense, Doom is the pinnacle of a Tank’s design in fps.
I felt exactly the same way.
I remember the first times I was playing support. He was following me everywhere to stun me without letting me play the game. I seriously asked myself how such a hero with THAT quantity of CC could exist and who could ever think he was fun to play/play against. A literal sadic/masochist maybe.
Don’t take this away from me! I need an offensive dos! And Venture fits my playstyle to an absolute tee!
If anything take Mei! Turn her into a tank instead!
so basically venture
Doom is my favourite tank to play with so idk what you mean. Tank DF >>>>>>>>>> Dps DF
Melee Widow wasn’t fun to play against.
Cause people convinced themselves he was gonna be portrayed by Terry Crews for some reason.
This is almost exactly why a lot of people stopped being excited about him.
I very distinctively remember that like 90% of the people i talked with despised doomfist, the other 10% played him
He was massively unfun to play against and most times he was unfun to play with as well, because a big portion of DF players did absolutely nothing to help the team other than frag sometimes, which often also ended in the DF dying as well.
I reckon venture will end up in the same vein as well because a hero thats based like 90% on crowd control and stuff like that will never be liked. Its annoying being booped and uppercut and pushed and punched and everything by any hero, and when the entire hero is based on just that it makes it worse
I actually had this argument in the comments with someone else before, where i said that doomfist is probably, and has probably forever been one of the most hated heroes in the game, and they, as a doomfist main argued that hes loved by most people, even though hes been genuinely one of the only heroes esp in ow1 era that would get consistent hate posts made about how his character just felt awful to play against, and even with,
it seems like that to a big part the people who play him seem to think that everyone shares their views on him about the character
Which probably means DPS Doom is never coming back. Devs seem hard committed that when the community asks for a certain rework, they build a new hero with that basis instead. Like instead of support Sym, we got Illari, and now instead of DPS Doom, we got Venture. Next up is probably a Rein copy that is allowed to fight back.
