its possible him mentioning PvE here reflects the dev team needing to resolve problems like this in early conceptualization of overwatch 2. likely not put in the video to hint at anything, but maybe he subconsciously made the analogy because he was thinking of ways to solve typical pve-related issues for development.

I don’t think they wanted to make an OW2 but it was likely pushed by Activision in a greedy cash grab.

It has something to do with time, resources and a promise that all future Overwatch content will be free. I doubt they’d ever be able to make large scale PvE content for Overwatch without corporate increasing their budget.

Pretty much this. Imagine OW, but with a couple of perma-PVE modes thrown in with an updated graphics engine. That’s it. That’s “OW2”.
It’s just another way for Activi$ion to get you to repurchase essentially the same game and make additional micro transaction $$ off of the same IP.

One is a complete story experience.
The other is a collection of supposedly highly replayable missions that take place on every map in Overwatch (Including maps like Black Forest) with different objectives each time you play.

For what reason other than achievements for cosmetics. It’s not like it’s an MMO where you are grinding for gear upgrades, etc. It’s ultimately going to prove to be hollow after the first couple go rounds.
OW2 is just OW with some shiny trinkets bolted on to get you to pay full price for the same exact title on a new engine.
