Remember all those matches where 2 people cordially agreed to swap roles?

Welp, at least im sure

Nope, never happened, literally Not once in my 1000 hours of play. What did happen quite a lot was our Tank dying once and switching to dps so he can ‘carry’.

Pointing to LFG for help is bad, though, because it is a system that is good on paper, not good in reality. Too many variables that can make it a bad time, and honestly there is no difference between LFG and Solo Queue (imo). I get where the devs would like to have seen it go, but people will always find a way to screw things up in those instances.

I also feel like people can still do that now, just in a different way. I think some people have said it best that RQ is showing people’s flaws more. Before RQ yes you could switch roles and cover for other people. Now you can’t and it shows people where they had flaws and forcing people to work as a team.

Sure it can end up like LFG, but like LFG, it comes down to people messing it up and not the system. However, I see RQ getting a better rather than worse when the people stop forcing bad games out of spite and just played the game as intended. Also when they can get people in their right SRs and fix that issue, but I have hated Blizzards MM for years and believe they will never get it right.

Good advice, and can still work today with RQ. 2 heroes in each role to be good at can also help each role out long term. Like if your good as Ashe or Widow, then that will help improve your aim for Ana.

Sorry to say, then that isn’t RQ or OW’s fault, it is on you. I am best at projectile DPS (Junkrat and Pharah), but I am learning Ashe and Reaper to get better aim as a hitscan just in case. Would learn Widow, but the “all-or-nothing” style is not fun for me and rather do other things.

I do miss the switching to Brig, but currently I feel she is a throw pick with the changes they made to her. Could try Mercy just to add another Support until you get the hang of Baptiste. The other thing is try to focus more on the healing aspect of Bap instead of attacking since he is hitscan and you said you don’t like to learn hitscan. Just some help cause I am mostly (it seems) a Tank main followed closely by a Support main, so don’t mind giving advice on those roles if your not the best at certain ones  .

Is it though? You can play heroes like D.va who’s always been good at pressuring pharah and posing a great threat of just straight up killing both of them with her ult. D.va also denies a lot of incoming impact. Then you have orisa who can shield her team with a well placed shield. There are things that can HELP with pharah in each role.

d.va is terrible. Even worse after Sigma release that bullies her with his rock

D.va is only horrible in GM, Everywhere else she works fine.

I rocked her as Sigma and she’s dead. I burn her with 100 charge Zarya and she’s dead. I hook her as Roadhog and she’s dead. I pin her as Rein and she’s dead.

As tank player in this season (25 coins, lol) - D.va is a joke for me

you can still swap strategy, if two tanks agree they can switch from Orisa/Hog to Rein/Zarya, same with dps combos and even supports, cordiality is not gone in the slightest and you still need to coordinate with your pick with your teammates

What do you mean “now”? That was comp last month.

I can count the number of times a team has peacefully and uniformly decided that the current comp isn’t working and made the appropriate switches to actually win the match on one hand.

I had good LFG experiences in a lot of other games. It’s salvageable.

First order is to find a way to discourage deband at first loss. Everyone is friendly and amicable, then we lose one match and half the team quit.

I don’t like this argument because having a multi-role pool was not a flaw until one week ago.

And I think this system actually encourage one tricks more than ever, since now you only need one reserve hero, no matter how popular is the hero you want to one trick. Before role queue, pretty much only off-meta players could one trick because Widow, Pharah, Tracer, etc could be picked by someone else and not allow you to properly “one trick”, forcing you to widen your hero pool.

Only if you want to improve in all roles. Not all players will. I bet most people will just do the qualifiers for the end of season rewards, and only focus on their highest SR role, using the lower ones to “de-stress” if they get tilted on their main role.

Which will have the side effect of people that are actually on that SR range will get a tilted teammate that will probably not be trying their best to win, since they only want to vent a bit of frustration.

I also hope I’m wrong. But I expect a decline in low-mid rank match quality.

I literally can’t play flick hitscans. Ashe, Widow, McCree, and even Reaper or Tracer are out of my reach because of that.

For instance, I have 18 hours on Widowmaker in quick play. All those hours is me trying to get the hookshot snipe achievement. I often cant follow up a stun with McCree if I don’t immediately assume I’ll hit and fan in a single motion.

So no, I don’t want to get good at hitscan. And I don’t think it’s even possible for me if I couldn’t do that after all those years playing games.

Projectiles, strangely enough, I get naturally. There is something about leading shots and learning projectile speed that is just natural to me. Point-and-click adventures I never understood.

I tried.

My Mercy is terrible. I spend more time running back from spawn than healing my team. I whiff guardian angel all the time, and since they nerfed her beam to 50 HPS it don’t even feel like I’m helping, just delaying the inevitable.

I rarely primary fire as Baptiste. I just look where the main tank is, and spam grenades at their feet. I’m more strategic with the rest of the kit, but I don’t consider myself good enough with Baptiste yet. I still forget sometimes that I can high jump.

Vis a vis, I had a good deal with Overwatch. Even after I quit the first time when they deleted my main, I came back because my friends called to me to cover that gap in the group when I left, so I went back mostly to play with them.

Now they are disheartened by role queue. And if they are not there to play with me, probably it will not take long for me to quit a second and final time.

I mean obviously.
I mean, if I’m in a sixman and let’s say, everyone in the group is gold, why can’t we swap roles?

Only if the other team has that setting. Otherwise it’s abusable because of SR differences. But if everyone is agreeing to it, then that should be fine.

Eww…

I mean, even if it’s not directed towards me personally, the guy just gave you his view on the subject, which by the way, happens to also be true for the grand majority of the player base (but hey what would a high- ranked elitist know about that) and then you go on to rank - shame him? Really?

That’s when someone understands that you have no arguments to support your opinion…

My feeling on stuff like this is: You can’t code people.

No matter what, you can’t put in code to make people use the system as intended. Also doesn’t help with more and more people on all online games thinking it’s always someone else’s fault.

Or it was, but no body saw it was a flaw because they could switch. Also, those people who are “flex” players who switch roles to cover something might not be as good as they thought they were on a certain role. You also got people who were being covered for their bad play not being bailed out. So it is showing people’s flaws, not on their off role, but their main role as well.

Honestly, (this is anecdotal) RQ has actually helped me find my main. I never really thought I was “vastly” different in certain roles, but after my Placements and whatnot, I noticed my Tank > Support > DPS. So really, RQ has helped me greatly in this aspect.

Honestly, smurfs and throwers have already ruined that, so not really much getting changed on that aspect.

Reaper isn’t like most hitscans since you got to get in people’s faces to be effective, and really not much on the flicking aim like the others. I still get what you mean, and good that you find your nitch playstyle on that role.

Honestly, it sometimes can feel that way, but when you do make an impact, it feels so good. Had a game on Dorado where we were holding the choke for the win. I Rezzed our Bastion in the middle of a scrappy team fight and that play helped us win the game.

Honestly, may sound heartless, but if your not enjoying yourself then it might be best to move on. No one is forcing you to play a game you hate. I’ve quit games I’ve spent money on plenty of times. So best to do it now because RQ is kind of here to stay, much like when No Limit was taken away.

“all” those matches? Sure

" REMEMBER ALL THOSE MATCHES WHERE 2 PEOPLE CORDIALLY AGREED TO SWAP ROLES?"

No. I don’t. I remember all those times I politely asked someone if I or someone else could swap roles and in stead got flamed because everyone thinks everyone else is out to get them and criticize them.

So now. It’s better this way.

Remember all those matches where a tank or support would switch to dps because they think they can do better and lose the game?

Hard to say goodbye to something I never experienced.

Hey buddy let me show you a little trick: if you type “& n b s p ;” without the space in between the letters it will count as a letter but will be invisible.
