This change would do very little to address soldier’s issues. It would also mean that, because of this change, any future buffs to soldier would have to be tuned around his ability to reload while sprinting. This would take him down the wrong path in terms of balance.
Things soldier needs right now are:
-More ability to go toe-to-toe with widow&hanzo
-A better ult (possibly one that rewards skill and aim more)
-Possibly either a damage increase or ammo increase
Reloading while sprinting will NOT fix the problems soldier is having. It would be a bandaid solution to a much deeper problem with the current power creep of other DPS heroes. I hope Blizzard does not go that route.
Also, I’m a diamond soldier main. I know that shouldn’t matter, but the sad reality of the forums is that a lot of people only care about your opinion based on your rank.
TL;DR: Reloading while sprinting is a bandaid solution that won’t fix soldier’s lack-luster performance. He needs more serious, well thought-out changes.
I always thought reload while sprinting would help but i totally get your point. Kind of a similar reaper problem now. As he is your main im sure you are correct here

Pretty accurate, reloading has never been his problem. Keeping up with all the burst damage has

I always though maybe giving him more rockets but reducing the damage may help.
I mean for super rare occasions that massive burst helps but for normal heros it’s kinda overkill. Be cooler to have less burst but more readily available. As for reloading in sprint, I don’t see why not.
QL change. WB can reload in ball form with his speed boost, why cant soldier?
Soldier definitely needs more than a reload while sprinting, but a sprint reload I feel is more just QoL and wont be game breaking, and something nice to just have.
In a fast paced game it’s weird that Soldier has to stop in his tracks to reload

I mean I’m pretty sure Normal RL soldiers can reload and run but this futuristic super soldier cant?

Depressing that in a vacuum Soldier is the strongest he’s ever been but is still trash tier when he used to be the dominant DPS.

Buffing Soldier would just also contribute to power creep. (same reason I’m against buffing Genji). This is easy to say when it’s not (reader’s main here) but everyone with a bad main wants them to get buffed. If Soldier became good, then we would then buff Genji or Ashe or whoever the worst DPS then is, and power creep would keep going.
For instance, one of the things we can do to help Soldier the most isn’t buffing Soldier but nerfing snipers, doomfist, and overall healing.
I think that next patch, with dive still being bad and barriers being weakened, Soldier being able to finally actually shoot things will help a lot and we should see how he is from there.
I can only speak for myself, but I just ask for it because I feel a qol is all we will get. Not because I believe it will actually buff him. Rofl.
