Not sure how new the private profiles thing is but to set it by default in my opinion it should not be that way. I find it way to shady someone tries to add me with me unable to look up where I even played with them or see what they are about. I’m sure a lot of people share my concerns but as of now I’m personally rejecting all friend request that have this setting enabled sadly.

Nope do not share it. I advocated hard for private profiles so many games i have seen lost before the first shot has been fired because someone picked a hero he has not played that season yet and others flamed/threw because of it. I absolutely love it!

That issue is solved by the report system. If someone want’s to act childish and throw the game then they are hurting themselves also. If you are good then it would not be a problem to win the games back anyways. This is my 2 cent’s but I standby my word’s. I will not befriend anyone who privatizes there account’s. Sorry

If the report system actually worked, it would solve the problem; however, that is far from the truth which is literally one of the reasons why they made private profiles a thing.

Yes, everyone is forced to have their profiles set to private.
I have been rejecting everyone since the beginning unless I get invite after we win the match.
No need to apologize, no one cares.
Which also solves OP’s silly stated problem of “unable to look up where I even played with them or see what they are about”, because once you are friends you see their profile. Making this another “Hurr Derr Priavte Profiles” thread.

I think it is more sad that you need to look at someone’s play history before deciding if you want them on your friends list. If you had fun playing with them, and they you, then who cares that they have 200 hours on Mei, and/or play low silver? It’s a game.
However, as you said yourself:
That is 100% your choice. Just like most player’s choices are to keep their profile hidden. Both sides are working as intended. This entire thread has been spinning its wheel from the start.

if you do befriend them you see it though cause its set to FRIENDS only and if they still private you can always kick them again.

For every action there is an equal opposite reaction. Also they don’t have a “choice” as no one was ever told this was the case. I only found out from watching Sodapoppin Twitch channel and it is set by default that no one but your friend’s can see it. The best thing is to make the default to public but if you want to set it to friends only then it is by you’re choice.
I mean, you can check your immediate game history and they will show up in a list. Their profile just shows who they play a lot of and their stats, not showing that doesn’t make them shady.
No other privacy settings anywhere works that way, if you want it to be public then you set it to public so it is your choice and the consequences can only fall to you.
If anything, it should notify new players of the game and people who haven’t played since the update, that these profile settings are in place and that if they want it to be public, they have to do so themselves.
I like this OP. They rate someone based on their character pick rather than the quality of their personality and actual in-game performance. I am more and more glad private profiles exist. Yeesh.

The problem is no one knows about this feature nor it being defaulted to friends only. I don’t mind that they have this but to make it default like this is just crazy to me.
It should be default because people’s privacy is more important than your desire to judge them based on their character selection.
As I said:
Setting to default is for everyone’s own good because then the consequence of having the profile public is in the individual’s own hands.

The fact that people get this tilted over a setting that is pretty much a given for any social profile speaks volumes.

The fact you think I’m tilted as a knee jerk response to me is laughable. I have never been toxic to anyone and don’t plan on too and for you to assume this just proves your ignorance.
I want people to be notified of this at least.
Everyone who frequents the forums (or reads the patch notes) were told that the default was going to be set to “friends only”. It was set this way because the vast majority of players DONT CARE about their profile page, and wouldn’t care if it were hidden or not. That gives players who DO want to hide their profile (for whatever reason) proper coverage.
