Reinhardt Nerf?

22 April patch

I mainly play support and tank and I have been playing alot of bap lately, even after this nerf/buff I think he is still a viable option to the team and the nerf on immortality was good. However, in the state of overwatch when it comes to tank players. You say you needed to nerf reinhardt because:

Reinhardt has been overperforming since his last round of changes. To help increase tank diversity we are reverting his armor to its previous value while keeping the Rocket Hammer damage increase for now as it helps to balance out the reduced crowd control duration of Earthshatter.

  • Armor reduced from 250 to 200 (Health/armor total reduced from 550 to 500)

Everything else, I’m fine with. But this nerf was stupid. Have 250/250 health/armour instead. I thought the state of overwatch was about to make a turn with this new rush comp and more picks from reinhardt. Barely before it even starts, its already getting nerfed. It is already hard to motivate the main player base of overwatch (mainly dps roles) to even try playing a tank role because they simply die too quick or do not get any kills. The priority queue does not work most of the time, atleast not for me, and I’m in plat. You queue for over 10 minutes anyway, so it is not worth playing flex anyway.

I really love this game and do not wanna seem frustrated by writing this on discussions. I wanna hear your guys input on this, I know that I’m not alone with these opinions on the update but I do wanna hear what others think. Why was it neccessary to nerf Reinhardt?

they wanna make tanks brawlers but i dont think they should do that. in some years tanks had a high impact on the game and rn buffing their dmg shouldnt happen, like reins. Reinhardt needed help but this wasnt the right buffs, he neede higher survivability which was 250 armor, and he needed his 3 second shatter back, but he got the damage buff instead which made him a must pick. so what im saying is, the dmg buff needed to be reverted, but the armor buff to stay

Reinhardt being too strong makes people less likely to play tank, not more.

Having a variety of viable characters is a reason why people play dps. I’m not going to play tank if my Orisa just gets steamrolled by Rein every game.

I would do:

Reinhardt

  • Base armor increased from 200 to 225
  • Base health increased from 300 to 325

Rocket Hammer

  • Damage reduced from 85 to 80

Because they refuse to buff other tanks to be able to compete with him. I would do the somewhat small nerfs to Reinhardt I listed above and then do minor buffs to the other struggling tanks over time until they are good. I would revert the Orisa Halt! cooldown buff they did. Halt! could use a minor buff to it’s snare duration, but that’s it. More power needs put into her barrier.

yeah one of the reasons i avoid the tank role is because of how strong rein is. if anything i think he still needs more nerfs (really not sure why they didnt nerf his damage instead of the armor).
i dont want to be stuck playing only rein/zarya. more nerfs to rein -> higher chance i queue tank again.

Indeed, and they don’t seem to be able to make other main tanks any stronger without making the meta to just have two main tanks. Unless we’re buffing all off-tanks (which, judging by how much people freak out with the idea of Hog buffs is unlikely), the best route is to nerf Rein.

Okay I somehow thought that if you could dominate as well as a DPS character you would be more likely to play the tank role too.
