Reinhardt in overwatch 2

I think rein, is gonna suffer a little in overwatch 2 because of his low movement and close range damage, making him depent on other heroes like Lucio. I think a cool change that could improve that and make him more fun to play and still balanced is giving him a “fuel” to his charge, in a way where you could actually use his charge engine, in a lower setting, increasing his movement speed (trigger by another button, like baptiste crouch and jump), and when he uses this speed, his charge fuel lowers down, and his charge damage is decreased from whatever’s his fuel level is, and when hi uses his charge, he could use like a 75% or 100% of his fuel, not being able to increase his speed until the fuel recharges, (the fuel would work kind like dva’s defense matrix in overwatch 1), so the player would have to manage his fuel to manage movement speed and charge, making rein more fun to play, more competitive, and still balanced, in my opnion, what do you guys think? (If there is any errors in the writing ignore it or tell me about so i can improve, English is not my native language)

A fuel could be fun and all, but it has to allow a little more movement than just 1 charge distance.

Maybe 2 charges of charge could solve it too…

The fuel would allow the rein to increase his movement speed using the charge cannons, not exactly using a charge, so it would be a constant use until his fuel is off, like Lucio’s movement increase, the charge would be a separate ability, that would also use the same fuel, that’s why the user would have to manage, sorry if that wasn’t clear

It sounds great, I mean, Rein is a really strong tank, but he is kinda slow, and needs someone to help him in that part and some players use him as shield, so now that we have 5x5 it is hard to play with such slow moviments, your solution sounds great, hope the devs are going to see this!

Reinhardt needs something.

Every single personality that has reviewed Reinhardt in OverWatch 2 Alpha has stated that he is in a very bad spot. If the devs don’t do anything to fix this it makes me question their thought process. Like is it truly possible that every streamer out there is wrong about Reinhardt and the devs are right and we just don’t understand how he works? I think not.

I think this fuel option to increase his movement speed on demand is a great idea.

An option I always thought that would be neat is the ability to charge up his engine and jump high with just enough mobility to reach high ground, a ledge. With enough animation time to charge up and land with the thud to make sure you’re not just doing it willy-nilly.

Perhaps they should also reinstate the full health of his shield.

And is Hammer swings should be high risk high reward I actually think they need to increase the melee damage of his hammer.

You’re going to get shot to death while you try to get in range to smack people with your hammer but if you do happen to get him within range you should be able to punish hard.

Perhaps a fortify ability like Orissa?

I don’t know but he needs to be put in a place to where he’s just as viable as any other tank in this new 5v5 format and not just reliant on a hard pocket by Lucio.

Yeah, i also saw the streamer’s talking about it, maybe the devs need to look at it closer, i think the beta is goint to reveal more about this

I also truly hope that the whole idea of team play being removed in favor of a 5v5 free-for-all deathmatch really doesn’t become a thing because what makes OverWatch stand out is the team mechanic. I liked watching OverWatch League because it was a team-based game and teams had strats and plays just like football. Sitting around just just watching who’s the best damage dealer is going to be quite boring.

I think flats can make Reinhardt work in any scenario, is he really a parameter? Hahaha

In low/mid level play I think people will always value a shield. Even if it is nerfed again. Rein has always been perceived as a good tank by the average player even in times when he was out of meta.

yes it is, but it doesn’t seem to be what devs want for ow 2, he basically holds his team hostage to his shield, orisa lost his shield so he could interact more with the rest of the game, rein remains the same.

What if Earthshatter became a basic ability that slowed and dealt damage in place of fire strike. And then he got some other ultimate… idk.

Just thinking.

Orisa’s problem wasn’t that she had a shield necessarily but rather that fundamentally she promoted static, defensive gameplay. Her shield isn’t even that strong. I’m sure they tried various iterations that kept the shield and decided that she was more fun with her new kit.

I think the devs don’t hate the idea of a tank having a shield protecting their team, if they did they would have taken away Sigma’s shield and maybe shrunk Rein’s to be for self defense only or something.

I think you’re conflating potential strength with the ability to consistently do that damage. If Reinhardt could do 1000 damage per swing, it still wouldn’t matter if he also couldn’t close the gap before dying or feeding.

We live in a world where physically protecting your team with a shield is “holding them hostage”. I’m extremely confused why you guys hate tanks that much.

because it’s the only way it works, so we don’t have any problem with orisa shield right?

protecting is different from being a shieldbot, it’s like double shield spam, but of course flats won’t admit that.

of the other tanks the same capacity and see how this game looks boring.

It’s not that being the shield for your team a bad thing, the things is that there’s only one tank now and depending on the situation being more agressive can be game changer

Yes, i don’t think a strategy like that would work in overwatch 2, specially with characters like sombra, with the new hacking, and tanks like doom and wreckinball, and other heroes that can easily destroy your shield, you have to be more agressive, and create space, and rein can only creates this space from a close distance

I’m not going to lie, I feel like the community doesn’t even deserve Tanks in gaming. So much vitriol and accusations of being shield/heal bots when you’re just doing your job. Plus, double shields get scrutinized, but you can run double snipers all day and everyone considers that to be fine. Its unreal.

Tanks didn’t ask for this, though. Essentially, you’re saying “I can be Reinhardt, or I can be a tank that actually matters for the gameplay”, and that’s just no good. I think I’m hearing that Mercy is in the same situation? How long until they give her an AK and consider her fixed?

the community doesn’t deserve that anything other than rein/zarya is a pick throw, in low SR queues, being healing bot is not the job of support, it’s called SUPPORT not healers, when your gameplay depends entirely on another player, there is something wrong with the game design.
